CP All responds to 7-Eleven boycott

Unfortunately, this is the 21st century and the modern 7-11s, Family Marts and supermarkets will always beat the ugly mom and pop stores. It's business.

While I personally would prefer to support small businesses, let's be frank, would you buy from these small and unclean non air conditioned provision shops or would you prefer the nice, bright and cool 7-11s?

Typically I go out of my way (not real far) to go to a mom and pop shop. My dislike for huge corporations grows daily. I also appreciate mom a pop shops because I like like to drink beer anytime I wish.

Freedom to exercise choice is a wonderful thing. I go to both.

In fairness, i do not think boycotting is about 7-11 per say, it is more about the parent company CP who does bully smaller business.

CP does not only 7-11 but much much more.

7-11 are franchises, so people are boycotting wrong people. If they really wanted to boycott, perhaps wiser choice would be to stop buying products produced by CP, instead of individually owned stores

Wow that was a good find. Wait it says that in the OP

The proposed boycott of 7-Eleven stores from May 7 - 11 to protest CP All’s business practices seemed to get the mega-conglomerate’s attention,

After living/ working in Thailand for 10 years (and living in a tourist town) I have a lot of respect for Seven-Eleven and Family-Mart employees. They are usually well trained (depends if the manager cares) and are more enthusiastic than the ones I find in a local soi ma & pa shot. One can go and pay your utility or phone bills at a7-11; purchase minutes for your phone; get a sandwich or Ma-Ma Noodle heated up; and in a tourist town these poor employees have to deal with punching in the code number on the customer's phone for more minutes because they haven't figured it out; deal with various rude nationalities; and of course drunks. I find these employees with great people skills. I wouldn't have the patience.

Too many 7 11 elevens around and way too convenient

Cannot see a boycott happening or working and CP know it

I am in a large condo complex with a 7 11

So either I go to 7 11 that is 200 yards away, or take a 15 minute walk to the mall

Did I mention it is fricken hot in Bangkok

7 11 it is

Thailand. Lets all these bastards get down. They rob everybody with their monopoly position. All of them 7-11, tesco lotus, big c they are all more expencive then any other supermarket in europe where there is a much higher income. 2% of Thai robbers keep the whole country poor.

Good to see yet another smart ass resurrected, I guess its the triple digit IQrolleyes.gif

Here familiarize yourself with CP business,

Again for the gifted ones with triple IQ, 7-11 is a franchise, individually owned, so what ALL is boycotted?blink.png

What attention? CP basically said "up to you"

I have something for you lemoncookie

A confirmation that the action is to protest CP All’s business practices, as is written in the OP.

As of the 3rd quarter 2014 there were 7965 7/11 stores in Thailand of which 3514 were owned by CP directly smile.png

Yes, it wonderful to still have that choice. Thats why I said I typically go out of my way to mom and pop shops, its not the small independent shops that is the threat for loosing that choice. If you take a deep look into CP ALL you will not find a pleasant picture. I am not a tree huger by any means, but I do have a conscience for people and the environment.

Thailand lacks organized consumers, labor unions and the majority of the people is kept poor and stupid.

Therefore the door is wide open for companies like CP and a few more to rule out competition and exploit the country.

CP owns the whole chain from animal food to the processed meat in the shop that they also own. It's outrageous that simple processed pork meat products are sold at up to twice the price that the same products cost in Europe.

Thailand was never colonized by a foreign country, they are still colonized and exploited by their own elite!

Spot on ,could not have said it better myself .

Let me fix that for you.

"I am semi bothered and personally wont eat Mcdonalds anymore as there have been so many reports rumors that show they buy rotten meats unfit even dog food, apply chemicals processes to it to recreate as an edible food like product like their burgers."

Exactly right. Rumors started by Chipotle and Burger King that the 'King of Burgers' is dead. Ha, ha.

This is not a socialist state and we can eat as we like. Sure, develop a boycott if you wish. Folks everywhere are highly driven by cost, quality and value. And that is why 7/11 and MCD thrive.

MacDonalds? Quality? Are you kidding? I haven't eaten at a MacDonalds for years now, I can get a bowl of noodles for a lower cost, better taste, and at least marginally better nutritional value. So I am definitely driven by cost, quality, and value which keeps me AWAY from MacDonalds.

I do go to 7/11 almost every day though.

I like the ridiculous alcoholic beverage regulations because that way I can time my visits to my local 7-11 or Family Mart so I don't encounter persons buying beer or other imbibes.

Wow! Someone's a bit precious. smile.png Or perhaps all buyers of beer are bloated, aggressive, angry, red-faced, spitting, raging torrents of humanity. And they might breathe on you at the checkout. smile.png

My understanding was the the poster meant there were less people around so he could get in and out quickly. I guess it's how we interpret things around us that makes life so different for each of us.

.

I really wouldn't know because -- since the beer buying hours are conveniently posted -- I'm not in the 7-11 when the bloated, aggressive, angry, red-faced, spitting, raging torrents of humanity are in there buying their beer and ciggies to go with it.

There's no point in getting your nickers in a twist over whether MacDonalds is good or bad, CP is a monopolistic pariah, or 7/11 is better than mum and pop stores. Your spending your money so you can spend it where you want!

As for the guy that won't go in 7/11 because there are people buying alcohol....you better get geared up as the world ain't changing for you!

When I first came here I used to try avoiding the big corporations like Tesco, 7-11, Big C etc. and try to support small local 'mom and pop' type businesses.

Until the small local businesses started trying to rip me off and overcharge me for their goods. Never been ripped off at 7-11, air conditioned, always well stocked, prices marked, normally fairly polite service from staff.

Yes, it is as simple as that...... a price is scanned and you pay it. No falang tax!

Well, that means you didn't live in Soi 12 Pattaya Park were the Russian tourists buy alcohol at all hours! biggrin.png BTW I don't live there anymore either.

then you will love Indonesia, because, with the exception of Bali, the entire sale of alcohol will be prohibited very soon and those found drinking a beer will go to jail (not sure about caning or stoning, but who knows....)

I don't care what other people do -- I just don't want to have to deal with them. Cigarette buyers are pushy enough.

And they don't realize they're STINKING bally!

I don't say I like 7/11 over mom & pop shops, both have their place in Thailand & both provide a service good or bad depending on the store...

I can't pay my utilities bills in mom & pop stores so use the convenience stores as I need to
It's a free world & a free market... vote with your feet for the service provider you prefer....

Thailand was never colonized by a foreign country, they are still colonized and exploited by their own elite!

Chantaburi province was 'colonized' by the French from 1900-1910, which is why if you go there you will see some rather nice colonial buildings, rather than the usual concrete eyesores redolent of every Thai city and town.

I wonder how only one province in a country can be colonized.

King Rama 5 did some exchanges of areas with the French in the east and the Britisch in the west in a succesfull attempt to avoid colonization at that time. You can find the details on internet.

Now in Europe, can't believe how much cheaper everything in supermarkets is, for example, beer 15 baht a bottle!

I spend time in Spain, and food and drink are often cheaper and always far higher quality than you find in Thailand.

The top 25 overall scores are listed below:

1. Netherlands

2. France and Switzerland (two-way tie)

4. Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Belgium (four-way tie)

8. Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Luxembourg and Australia (five-way tie)

13. Spain, Greece, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, Finland, Cyprus and Iceland (eight-way tie)

21. United States and Japan (two-way tie)

23. New Zealand and Israel (two-way tie)

25. Canada, Brazil, Estonia, Slovakia and Hungary (five-way tie)

<snip>

Does 3514 corporate stores read as if they are owned by anyone else than CPall themselves?

And does another 3000+ plus sounds like it's also owned by CP?

Its ok I understand, basics are not your forte
