14 days at land border crossing OK after 30+30days visa exempt?

Featured Replies

finally managed to sign up to the forum!

I am in Thailand with visa exempt 30day stamp, which I extended for another 30days in Immigration.

I would need to stay about 10days more before going back to Europe, so was wondering whether any issues to just take a daily visa run to Cambodia

and get 14days from there? Or any concerns of possible ripple effects of the crackdown once year ago that would cause any issue for this to work?

Would be easiest and cheapest for me.

thanks

Back to Back attempts at securing visa exempt entries are being actively discouraged especially at land boarders !

Best you fly to another country and the return for another visa exempt entry.

Next time you visit Thailand be sure to obtain a proper visa valid for however long you wish to stay .

when you say "being actively discouraged" does it mean that actually I would not be allowed to enter the country, or

that it is just discouraged but practically I would get 14days? Anybody with recent experience on land border run in comparable

situation?

I was supposed to be able to return within the extension, however some things have slipped. Yes would get visa if would need to stay

longer, this is a bit of a temp/one-time case for which I am looking most practical solution.

You could be refused exit/entry but it is your responsibility to evaluate the potential risk .

As already said all risk can be eliminated by making a cheap return flight to a nearby country..

Knob, there is no published rule about this. From what members have reported in this forum it seems to depend largely on your history of visa-exempt entries over the past 12 months and sometimes also on how well an immigration officer understands the guidelines he has been given or on his mood.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I'd say your chances of being refused re-entry on a visa-waiver are good; very likely the IO at a land border will tell you to get a tourist visa. He/she will not listen to any pleas about 'only needing ten days' or whatever.

So if you are still intent on trying, try to do it where as a back-up you can conveniently get to a Thai embassy/consulate - such as Vientiane or Savannakhet.

This company that does border runs can probably tell you your chances of getting one at the Cambodian border. They would not take you there if you can't do it.
