best option when leaving Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm British, 32 years old. I'm a teacher working in Bangkok and I'm moving to work in China.
I entered Thailand on a non-immigrant B visa and am on extension of stay with the 90-day reports. Annoyingly, although my contract runs to the end of July, my visa will end on July 12th and I'm flying to China on July 26th. I just wondered what the best solution would be for these 14 days?
I spoke to my school's HR and they explained that I can't just pay for an extension at Chaeng Wattana as my visa is linked to my work permit so I'd need to extend both and the school won't do this (understandably).
Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.

If they won't explain to your school that after the 12th you are not allowed to work. An extension would cost 1,900 baht and a work permit for 3 months would cost about 750 baht.

You can make a border run and get an extra 30 days to stay upon return into Thailand, but would not be allowed to work.

Hi, thank you for the replies. So, I could pay 7,000 baht in overstay fines or do a border run. Sorry you probably get this question a lot but I haven't done a border run before - which route/place would be quickest or most convenient from Bangkok? how long would it take and what's the price? Could you suggest a company or PM me,
many thanks

Do not forget the option of a 1900 Bht extension + the small cost of a 3 month WP

If you choose to do a border run ensure your employers are aware that you can no longer legally work after July 12th .

Border runs are made to the Cambodian border by several companies advertising in the BKK-post. Not sure about the cost, but back the same day.

Hello

Your best bet would be to get your Non-B and your work permit revoked

on Friday 10 July 2015 and fly out of BKK (to Malaysia on AirAsia, for

example) on the same day OR within 7 days of your visa extension for

1,900B.

I would definitely miss my students if I had to leave school in the middle

of the term, though.

Hi, I'm the person who started this thread, thanks to all the members who gave me advice. As I stated before, my visa and work permit were due to expire on July 12th and I'm flying to China on July 26th. I decided to go with my school's HR staff to immigration to renew my Thai visa for 1,900baht. So I now have an extension of stay until next year based on my non-immigrant B visa. The staff said this was fine and simply wouldn't renew the work permit when it expires on the 12th as I'm not working between now and the time I leave.
The next problem is that the HR lady said I would need to cancel this visa before I fly out. She said they (the airport staff) probably won't check, but they may. Can anyone explain or confirm this? The school is preparing a letter that I should take to the Chaeng Wattana immigration.
Does anyone know whether this is necessary? Will simply leaving Thailand cancel the visa anyway? Will they fine me if I haven't cancelled it? I'm sorry for all the questions but this is just very confusing!

At the airport they will not check.

At the airport they will not check.

Thanks for the advice. My issue is that I have a 1-year extension of the non-immigrant B visa and was told by my school that i have to cancel this. They gave me a letter to take to Chaeng Wattana. The HR lady actually said the same as you, she said they probably won't check. I just don't want to get to the airport and be told I have go to immigration to cancel it and miss my flight. As long as they won't check, that's fine. Thanks.

Just thought I'd give an update, my school gave me a letter and some other documents I can use to cancel my visa. They said there is an immigration counter in Suvarnabumi airport I can go to. This makes more sense than having to visit Chaeng Wattana immigration to cancel the visa.

There is no counter at the airport other than departure immigration you can use.

If you are leaving the country from the airport all you have to is leave the country without canceling the extension. If by the unlikely chance they were to question you then you could show them the letter.
