CHIANG MAI:-- Police have rescued five teenagers from Chiang Mai who were forced to work as prostitutes in Hat Yai, south Thailand.

The girls, who are all aged between 15 and 18 years old, were lured by alleged human traffickers who made promises to their parents of employment with monthly salaries between 10,000 and 30,000 Baht.

However, the victims were imprisoned, subjected to violence, forced into prostitution and made to have sex with tourists from Malaysia, according to Thai news site KhaoSod.

The Bangkok Post reports how information obtained from the girls led police to arrest three suspected members of the sex trafficking ring.

The individuals arrested were Amapi Chaichana from Mae Ai district, Chayut Kijthongpoon and Chindarat Paeng-ai of Hat Yai who the is said to have operated a karaoke bar in the district which was used to pimp out girls.

Police also issued a warrant for a man called Ti who is believed to still be in Hat Yai, according to Pol Lt Gen Tanatisak, commissioner of Region 5 Provincial Police Bureau.

Surely this can't be true - only yesterday we were being told that Thailand is neither a source nor destination for human trafficking, merely a transit country.....................

The parents of course didn't for a minute consider the situation was suspect and probably didn't care anyway as money for them was involved.

Great picture.

They cover their faces while the BIB display a board with their pictures on it next to them......

I'm wondering if the board shows the photos of the arrested and wanted person ?

Would they take it serious, they'd stop the "One stop, buy a girl from a poor family in Cambodia service" and help these victims.

Just wondering how ASEAN will affect the whole situation....got a strange feeling that drug trade and prostitutes will increase.

Part of the anthem: " ASEAN, we're bonded as one, looking out to the world..."

Might be the way around and the world's looking at them. facepalm.gif

Throughout Sakon Nakhon their are plenty of KTV's that have underage Lao girls that cater to the Isaan farmers for 300 Baht for a pop before the coup and now the rates are 500 Baht.

Nothing changes as according to the mamasan, the Border Patrol, BIB and the army gets a cut of it.

I have never come across all my life about the northern women being forced into prostitution in Hatyai. Everyone is there on their own will.

If the truth be known I suspect the parents knew exactly what was going on from the start. 30,000 Baht salary for an underage girl with no work qualifications and should still be in school? Yeah right. Sad to say this is quite the norm up here in this neck of the woods.Too bad there is not a law that prosecutes parents that engage in this practice.

I think he might have got a clue that they might be looking for him when he seen his partners getting arrested

This is another statement from some high ranking cop to warn the culprit. Some people are born stupid and manage to keep their intellectual level until death.

What to say about the parents of these girls? Evil basta$#@$

In my opinion it says that the parents are just as complicit as the others being charged with human trafficking and should be dealt with just as harshly if not more so. Anyone who has lived here and has met the locals knows that it is common practice for the parents to force their children into prostitution. Much of the times the parents are not the victims but the beneficiaries of this. The girls trapped into this are the only victims. Although many girl do it willingly as well.
