Yes - that little thing called ratification by the states ... often means the people speak more directly ... than through elected so called representatives who are often on the take, The United States has the best politicians that money can buy.

Thanks for that.

However, 'ratification' by the states means the governments of the states, to include the legislature and the governor.

No referendums have been held and to my knowledge none are scheduled.

Referendums these daze tend to be expensive and dominated by the tea party activists as we saw in the mid-term of last November.

I never would have thought that the hometown of Hawkeye Pierce would have such redneck attitudes.

So you think foreign courts should make decisions that impact lives of Americans in America instead of American courts?

The far right needs to do less shouting and more research and reading.

The following is from the Resolution by the Conference of Chief Justices of the States in support of the treaty...

WHEREAS, state courts and state child support enforcement agencies in the U.S. already recognize and enforce foreign child support obligations, whether or not the U.S. has a reciprocal agreement with the other country, so the major benefit for the U.S. in joining the Convention will be obtaining child support enforcement services from other contracting countries for U.S. citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Convention and the conforming amendments to the UIFSA will not affect intrastate or interstate cases in the U.S. and will apply only to cases where one of the parties lives in a foreign contracting country; and WHEREAS, the Convention does not affect substantive child support law as its primary focus is on uniform procedures for the enforcement of decisions and for cooperation among countries;

Adopted as proposed by the CCJ/COSCA Courts, Children, and Families Committee at the CCJ/COSCA Annual Meeting in August 2009.

The CONFERENCE OF CHIEF JUSTICES of the states is a part of the National Center for State Courts founded in 1971 by then SCOTUS Chief Justice Warren E. Burger. The Conference and the Center support the treaty because they know what its provisions are and are not.

In the words of the Center: If ratified, the new treaty would facilitate the enforcement of US support orders in other countries that have also ratified the treaty. State court leaders support ratification of the Convention. (COSCA Resolution 08-M-2 and CCJ Resolution 09-A-5).

COSCA is the Conference of State Court Administrators at the National Center for State Courts..

CCJ is the Conference of Chief Justices of the States at the National Center for State Courts.

The Shariah law stuff is complete crap from the far out flying right wing. aa1912.jpg
