I believe the phrase is 'being done like a kipper'

It only cost GBP500 for an agency to get my husband's passport and that was in central London...over the years I've organised many visa's for him and never, ever, been asked to pay such an extortional amount..... :o

Good luck and keep us posted

markjeab,

Tell the agency that you have already paid them over 3 times the going rate, and unless they return her passport immediately you will be informing the police that they have stolen it.

As already said, this is theft, and I can assure you that the Thai authorities take a very dim view of this sort of scam. If they do destroy the passport then they will only be making their position with the police etc. worse. They will not be able to deny that they ever had it, as VFS will have a record that the passport was collected by them.

With due respect to Scouse, I cannot understand why people would choose to use an agent in the first place, unless their circumstances are such as to make the application complicated in some way.

For a straightforward application everything you need to know can be found by reading the appropriate official guidance notes and, if necessary asking on forums such as this.

All for free.

As a previous poster has said, i would be contacting the visa agent directly just to confirm they have asked for the payment (thats if everything has been going thru the girlfriend of course). :o

Hi Markjeab,

Welcome:to :o

First of all congrats on achieving the visa but I must say I have to join the chorus of 'scam-busting', comments already stated on this thread.

However it is always going to be your choice if you pay this money or not, at first I thought you had 'loads of money' and so the cost didn't really matter and for an easy life you thought to pay it, your latter post prove otherwise.

To pay this kind of money when it is hard to come by, is pure folly.

The passport obviously does not belong to the agents, no matter the agreement if any, i.e release of passport on granting of visa.

Although I agree that most visa's can be obtained through your own determination some people take the view of using agents for the ease of process and supposedly less stress involved, you have obviously taken this view but have taken it to the extreme.

If you follow a process of

1. Follow advice on this type of forum

2. Print off the relevant form

3. Attempt to fill it in

4. Ask advice on this type of forum

If you are still struggling,

5. Engage a good, reputable agent.

I suggest you may be at point 5 now.

So if you follow my advice contact DaviesKhan now.

1500 pounds let alone 3000 goes a long way in Thailand.

Good Luck

Big red face.

I've paid the money.

She's on her way over.

She will be landing Tuesday.

My girlfriend is quite intelligent and she has done most of the organising and running around.

I think the money has gone to the sick buffalo. :o

Anyway, she is going to find out that I am not made of money and my house is a shed.

I honestly believe that she doesn't believe me when I say I don't have a lot of money.

I will be organising her return flight if it gets any worse. I've paid for her to come and see me, not her family. Streuth!

The worst thing about it it, I have budgetted like mad over all of this, and even though it hasn't left me with much money, it has left me with just enough to survive without relying too much on others.

I did feel something coming, and sure enough that something came - £1500 smackeroons.

I had to get most of this from my Mum and I didn't want to have to do that.

We are planning on getting married after a couple of months of her being here.

She isn't going to see much of me because of this £1500. I think she is going to be quite bored.

I also won't be profiting from my house for a while now, and that isn't going to give me much lee-way either.

I spoke to an English gentleman who owned a big pad whilst I was in Thailand and he did say that the Thai girls are very demanding in the money department. He said that the Thai people don't understand the simple equation of paid more money = everything costs more money.

I am hoping that my girlfriend grasps that concept when she arrives.

Just curious, but has your gilfriend no money - What was her job in Thailand ?

Seems to me the girlfriend has no money, he has no money, they're not married so the facilitator must've done a good job to secure the visa cause the odds were not really in her favor. :o

Just out of curiosity Mark how did you manage borrow & handover 1500 on a Sunday?
