I just returned from Malaysia today.

To try and extend the life of my passport, I have learnt to ask nicely in both Malay and Thai for the IO to use his stamp carefully.

And it works ! I have been getting 8 exit/entry stamps to a page.

Today I asked if they would return to the first page, the Thai IO refused, pointing out that it had printed type on the other side and couldn't be used.

I know in years gone by, this page was for visas ( or maybe the last page ) but I have always got them to stamp every page in old passports.

Anyone know the truth behind the IO's reasoning.

I will try to get Malaysian immigration to stamp there next time
