Phra Suthep preparing to leave monkhood

He's leaving just in time for the big 2.6 Billion baht extravaganza:

A 2.6 billion baht fund has been allocated to allow the Public Warehouse Organisation to implement the oil palm price stabilization scheme by buying 100,000 tonnes of raw palm oil from palm oil extraction factories. The palm oil purchased by the PWO will be kept in stocks and, afterward, will be sold to domestic refineries. There will be no export of palm oil because the price of palm oil abroad is lower than the price set by the PWO.

BTW, where are all the people who were upset about the rice pledging scheme? This planned subsidy for the palm oil industry is diabolical, and yet no one on TVF says anything. This will benefit the southern palm oil extraction factories, who coincidentally are typically aligned with a faction who supported the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Thailand.

Hello? Hello? Anyone?

ahhh just the sound of crickets ...............

Well, I was a consistent critic of the rice pledging scheme once it was clear it was riddled with corruption and a financial boondoggle.

And, if the details you post above re the palm oil scheme are accurate, then it certainly looks to have the same kinds of characteristics as its predecessor.

I'm never a fan of governments buying up stocks of commodities to store and then attempt to resell at higher prices than what the market will bear.

If the government wants to support/subsidize particular industries deemed crucial to the nation, then at least work out some kind of direct subsidy or tax break for the actual farmers -- as opposed to this govt. reselling commodities BS that only serves to enrich middlemen and government bigwigs who always manage to get their fingers in the pie.
