General poll to take place August 2016 at the earliest: Wissanu

BANGKOK: -- A national general election planned for early 2016 will now take place in August 2016 at the earliest, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Tuesday.

He was speaking after the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order decided to hold a public referendum on the draft charter.

"If we have to do a referendum in January, after that we will need three to four months to amend various laws ... then no more than 90 days after that we will hold an election," Wissanu said.

"At the earliest it will take place around August or in September."

The referendum on the draft charter will decide just where the Junta stands with the people , however just who would take the time to read the draft in it's entirety one can't tell , however the amendments will be so large that the deadlines and elections will take place in 2017. coffee1.gif

This coup was based on lies & continues to be fueled by more & more lies.

well the general could hardly come out and announce that they "intervened" because their proxy political party was too feeble to win and election... whistling.gif

The current govt is in no hurry to hold an election. Earlier they projected an election in late 2015, then it slipped to early 2016, now it's slipped again to Aug/Sep 2016. No doubt there will be more slips to the timeline. Being in power feels good.

What's wrong with holding a referendum in 3 months time? and then the elections by April ?

And what happens if the referendum is totally rejected by the people and needs a complete re-write , there are some parts that have been deliberately included to ensure it will be rejected , another 18 months for a re-write and another referendum the Junta now has been in power 4 years.
