If you purchase a re-entry permit, but renew your visa afterwards, is the re-entry permit still valid?

Visa are not renewed. I assume you are asking about an extension of stay.

The old re-entry permit would end when your current extension ends which make it worthless. Also it would not be equal your new permit to stay date so for all intents and purposes means it would not be valid.

You have to apply and pay for a new re-entry permit after you have done the extension of course.
