police clearance for non-imm B @ Penang?

Featured Replies

Their English version website doesn't state one is required. Their Thai version links to MFA and they say yes according to our staff. Have emailed but not received a response.

Does anyone know whether a police clearance/check a requirement for non-imm B applications at this consulate?

It have seen no reports of it being needed in Penang or any other nearby embassy or consulate.

The English version of the MFA website says it is optional to get a non-b for teaching. http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908/15388-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22-(for-Business-and.html

" Police certificate verifying that applicant has no criminal record or equivalents or letter issued by authorised agencies in applicant’s country. (The requirement of the submission of such police certificate is optional. The applicant must submit it if consular officer requests he/she to do so. This requirement is effective as from May 2007)"

Thanks Ubonjoe.

Looks as though it's unlikely but they have the discretion to ask. I guess a Thai way to refuse a visa to unsuitable people.

Penang is (or certainly used to be) a consulate where you can phone up with queries regarding visa applications.

Telephone numbers: (604) 226-8029, 226-9484, 228-6784 VOIP: 520721,520722,520723

Try phoning them; they were not previously asking generally for police clearances from applicants, but quite possibly were doing so for teachers.

I came back yesterday from Penang to apply for a non B three months in order to apply for a WP.

The file was prepared by the accounting office of the company I will work for. I just provided pictured, my resume and some passport photocopies I think. I didn't go to police station asking for a police report.

In Penang I used the service of http://bananapenang.com/main/ for 50 Ringgit which was worth it instead of going to embassy and everything went well. Got my visa back next day. And half of the file prepared by the office were given back to me as it was not needed.

Hope that helps

Thats great,

so it seems all is same same in Penang and business as usual and one does not need go to the Consulate at all
