Min. of Commerce content with campaigns to ease living expenses

BANGKOK, 28 May 2015, (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce has declared that its various cost saving campaigns have been well received by the public.

Ministry Spokesperson Duangkamon Jiambutr said the agency has conducted 59 Blue Flag campaigns across the nation, valued at 3.9 million baht.

She said 2,691 vendors have joined the ministry’s scheme to offer affordable food to the public. 1,525 vendors are located in Bangkok and its vicinity, while the remaining 1,166 vendors are based in other provinces.

Ms. Duangkamon’s data indicated that the campaign has helped reduced the people’s daily food expenses by 10-35 percent, or 2.3 million baht nationwide.

Another successful campaign was having major retailers and department stores offer ten menus of ready-made food at 30-40 baht per dish. The campaign started on February 10 and will conclude next month.

She said her agency is planning at least 38 more Blue Flag campaigns and other similar events in the coming months. Ms. Duangkamon added that the ministry will conduct frequent price inspections to to prevent unfair trading.

The spokeswoman also invited more vendors to join its ‘Noo-Nid Pachim’ campaign, which recommends affordable, ready-to-eat shops and restaurants.
