I need to change my address from wife's house to SIL house. Can I do that in the same book?

As the SIL does not live in same town as her house, what documents from her do I need to change address/ obtain new yellow book?

Thank you for your help.

From the structure of a yellow book, I would guess you need to have a new one, old one voided.

It is not "your" book which follows your new address, but a list of inhabitants of a house.

A yellow or blue housebook is basicallty an excerpt/"copy" from the house register at the Amphoe.

The number of the house (incl. plot number) is on the first page and only there, so it is not possible to "change address".

Number of the house: yes indeed the houses also have a lenghty unique number.

is it legal to have 2 yellow books - 2 different locations,

one with family in BK,

one from the Condo seaside ;

Good to know if that is the case. I have a home and a yellow book in the northeast and a rental in the southeast and would be handy to have a yellow book for the latter. Isn't there a 13-digit ID number under your name on page 2 of the yellow book similar to the Thai ID card format that is the named persons unique identifier? Do you have the same ID number in both YB's?

I assume that the condo isn't in your name or else you could have a blue book for that one.

Absolutely!

Only occasion when changing citizen ID for foreigner would be getting permanent residency or naturalization (ID starting with 8 instead of 6).

Page 2 (from http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/681733-yellow-book-the-chicken-or-the-egg/#entry7044394)

Citizen ID is entry labeled "4".

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For better understanding, some of the more relevant content on page 2:

hausbuch_blatt_2_3.jpg

1) number of the house, derived from the blue book

2) (Mr. ....) first, middle, last name

3) nationality (at the right border "sex male")

4) citizen ID (starting with 6 for temporary foreigners)

4a) status (in the house): dependent (not master)

5) birthday

6) first name(s) of mother

7) nationality of mother (im ny case "undetermined" as not documented)

8) first name of father

9) nationality of father

10) (data) comes from the national citizen register (?)

11) appeared at the office on the morning of 25. Sep 2013

No you can't, same as a Thai can't have 2 blue books.

The book, yellow or blue, is proof that you reside at that particular address eg. your domicile as it would be called in the west, and you can have only 1 domicile.

Think you should reread mano66 post.

He is asking a question, not announcing anything.

By the way, as far as I'm aware, foreigners who have a blue book for the condo they own don't have their name in it.

Currently I am not in Thailand, and the books are there,

so I dont know about this numbers,

In Bkk I did it with my wife,

in K Samui, the Condo developer did it;

(I think as farong you can't get in the blue book, or maybee only if permanenet residency;

therefore got the yellow one in BKK but live with Thai family in same house, when there );

A Thai can have more then 1 Blue Book, but only be a resident in one Book and not in both.

My wife has two Blue Books, one for her property in Pattaya and one for her House in Buriram, but she only listed as a Resident in the Buriram property and not in the Pattaya one.

yes, but for the blue book she register with a Thai ID card, which is realted to the main living place;

If I register the yellow book, they have my passport with foreign adress !

No question if I have a 2nd place to stay or book;

A book , blue or yellow belongs to the house, villa, condo ;

Propably if you own by a company - you will get a blue book,

I have my Condo on foreign ownership, therefore a yellow book !

In the home in BKK, where is my thai wife the owner - all thais living in the house are in the blue book,

( we have asked in the Kote if I can be in the blue book as foreigner - no,

therefore they gave me the yellow one;

when I got the 2nd one in samui, I didn't mention that i have one in BKK already,

and it was done by the developer;

That's what I had in mind actually, you can only reside at one place.

My wife has to move address in yellow books.

Go to the current ampur you are registered at, tell them you are leaving and they will remove you from the register and give you two transfer forms. The current jao baan or owner needs to be present.

Take these forms to the new ampur and they'll issue a new yellow book (with the permission of the owners) and transfer you on there.

Bit off topic but when I went to get my yellow book about 12 years ago they wanted to know what my religion was. Being an atheist I replied that I didn't have any religion. The amphur would not accept this stating that 'everybody must have a religion'. It seemed pointless to argue the case so I said 'put down Christian'. Things may have changed since.

Religion?

That must have been changed.

There is no entry for religion in the yellow book.

(someone proof me wrong?)

Never been asked and no idea where my document of discharge from roman/cath. is. (about 25 y. ago).

I don't think there is an entry for religion in the yellow book. It was in the questionaire that had to be answered at the amphur prior to the issue of the book. The bloke asking the questions even had a list of religions that could be put down as an answer.

I remember this well as for a moment I was tempted to answer Jedi.

It must be in the about of the original one.

So if my yellow book is for an address in Bangkok and I move to my wife's house in nong kai she had to come to Bangkok with me?

They don't ask for proof of religion.

You can never discharge from RC I thought but are always recovering like an alcoholic not :-) :-).

Why would anyone else be interested, unless you think I've left my wife for my SIL?

Just moving house.

The new residence is only about 500 meters from the old, so will be same amphur.

Thanks for info.

Excellent advice. Thanks!

On second thoughts, I do more business enabling with the northeast yellow book that I could ever think of doing if it was re-issued in the southeast but good to know how to do it if push comes to shove.

It may be worth mentioning here that in my experience some ampur offices can be downright obstructive and virtually refuse to issue a yellow book to a foreigner without going through all sorts of hoops, whilst other ampur offices it's no problem.

My wife did all the work for mine. I just stood there and signed where indicated. Didn't seem much of a hassle.

Can transfer of address in yellow book be done online (I'm guessing no) ?

If not, how long does it take if done by paper - does new amphur issue new yellow book on the same day you take the transfer forms in ?

Depends entirely on the office you use.

This is exactly what I did, no hassle as the new owner of our bungalow in Songkhla is a friend. Simply paid a small fee, got a form of some sort and then my wife went to our new Amphur and had the yellow book in her hands after 20 minutes for a THB 20 charge, I didn't even have to tag along. Easy peasy.
