Changing school

Featured Replies

I would like some advice please. I have recently started a new teaching position for this term. My old school has agreed to leave my non B extension alone until my new school has all the paperwork in order. The paperwork for the new school should (who knows) be ready soon apparently. What has concerned me is I never renewed my work permit, I only went to immigration to extend my non B for another year with the paperwork from my previous school (I did this approxinately 2 months ago.)

Will I be subject to overstay because of not having a valid work permit, or will I be fine to cancel my visa extension at immigration and go to Laos for my new visa in a couple (hopefully) of weeks.

Thanks

Technically you are illegally in the country. If immigration will notice it is another matter, in all likelyhood they will not.

When you cancel the extension they might want to see that you cancelled the work permit, but normally they do not ask for it. What they certainly will want is a letter from your employer stating the last day of employement and based on that they will determine if you are on overstay or not.

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully all will be O.K. My old employer has said they will give me the letter when I'm ready for it. Am I likely to face any difficulty when applying for my new work permit once I have my new non B?

Not likely.

But get the new WP as soon as possible, you are working illegally in the country. That is more serious than overstay.

Will do. Thanks again.
