Confessions Of An Illegal Undesirable Alien

Recommended Posts

Well ain't this fun.

had lots of time to read nearly everything,

since I have no customers in my bar.

Oops!

but I'm not working!

renting a bar is legal.

employing a thai cashier seems legal, well at least noone seems to care.

giving a beer to a customer can get me deported of course.

but I haven't done that - since yesterday.

i have no work permit.

I have only a 30 day stamp - on my 4th this time in thailand.

have spent money for company.

why don't you get a work permit you lazy bum?

slowly, slowly.

it don't cost that much, but its a hassle.

AND

i might not want to stay here!

especially now.

so far i have spent a fair amount of money here,

haven't raped, killed or been into land scams.

but it seems I am one of the targeted undesirables,

'illegally working and taking jobs from thai people"

You have got to be kidding.

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a thai willing to work here in samui.

for pretty good money and benefits.

all thought of buying property in thailand has been trashed.

cambodia is looking seriously attractive.

stupid is as stupid does.

kinda amusing really, they shall reap what they sow.

So you are not busy, in fact business is dead slack but it's still too much of a hassle to organize a work permit? I don't get it - either you want to stay and organize yourself accordingly or you decide to go...woe-is-me self-pitying type gripes just piss off the unlucky few who don't have your choices...make up your mind and you'll feel better.

And get rid of people too lazy to get the proper papers, and who seem to think they have a god-given right to ignore proper visa requirements because . . well . .let's face it . . . . it's not that important is it?

I mean, they're not real laws. They're not written by white guys, for a start.

And we're white, so we can do what we like.

why is that so many replies target the poster and not the post?

point of the story was the fact that the new enforcements will achieve absolutely nothing.

cept perhaps re-elect TRT

I have no intention of taking you to task over the OP, but a person might assume the original post was your point of view.

However, I will say that to suggest the proposed new regulations will achieve nothing is very misguided.. it already is, and that's just the threat of it.

Let's see - removing the foreign bar owner in the scenario described in OP and replace him with a Thai bar owner, would make exactly what difference? ... A Thai will get the income the foreigner used to get ... what else?

This applies generally to all kind of non-skill requiring businesses (be they legitimate or not).

I think you overestimate the interest of the majority of Thais in whether foreigners make visa runs or not. It is far down on the list of most people's considerations. Most Thais, i.e. the ones that live outside the tourist areas, have not got a clue how the visa system works, and are a lot more concerned with their private economy than with the situation of foreigners in Thailand.
