I've just been looking at the requirements for a non imm O 'cos I'm looking to retire to LOS. They seem to have tightened up the requirements ie reqiring proof of funds and only accept postal applications at London. You can apply in person to local consulates but I'm not sure if they have to forward documents to London.

This is current as of today.

. HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA BY POST
2.1. Complete and sign one application form. Only visa application forms issued by The Royal Thai Embassy in London will be accepted. A separate form is required for each traveller regardless of age. DOWNLOAD FORM
2.2. Submit with the completed form
- Your Passport/Travel Document which must be valid for at least 6 Months from the date of application.
- Two recent passport size photos
- Appropriate fee (See Item 3)
- Each applicant must enclose self address envelope and pay an extra £10 on top of the visa fee to cover the return of passport
Examples of such evidence are:
- In the case of transit: a confirmed travel document (air ticket etc.) showing Thailand as point of transit.
- In the case of a business trip (Non-immigrant "B"): a letter of invitation, a confirmation letter of employer and/or a letter from a business counterpart in Thailand.
- In the case of working in Thailand: a letter of employment from your prospective employer, such a document should be addressed to The Royal Thai Embassy, and a copy of the companies registration certificate in Thailand.
- In the case of settlement in Thailand with Thai spouse/ Children/ Parents(Non-immigrant "O"): photo copy certificate of marriage, birth, Thai nationality passport/Thai ID card.(please do not send the original)
- In the case of UK Pensioner (Non-immigrant "O"): a copy of UK State Pension.
2.3. For other purposes than tourism: Please submit EVIDENCE SUBSTANTIATING THE PURPOSE OF YOUR STAY

- Visa Applications submitted by post must be sent to:

Visa Section, Royal Thai Embassy, 29 - 30 Queen's Gate, London, SW75JB

What exactly are you seeking ?

1. A single entry Non O visa based on being over the age of 50 which is easily obtained from one of the consulates (but not the Embassy)

OR

2. something else

Proof of adequate finance will be required.

Personal visa applications can be made in London .......................

Thanks for tis worthwhile information 'Keithathome'. A friend of mine recently tried unsuccessfully to get a Non Immigrant 'O' at his local consulate in the UK and was told all Non 'O' applications must go through the London Embassy. As he's a flight crew member and flying he had no time so went to Penang and got it there.

YUK certainly sums up the British sense of fair play & attitude to service and discrimination against pensioners wishing to live in Thailand.

Not sure that the blame for any discrimination against British pensioners wishing to live in Thailand can really be laid at the door of the Thai government who control PlastikbinLina's aviation pal's local consulate and the one at Penang!

I had a three day wait from posting my non O application to the embassy in London to getting my visa and passport back. Please explain your issue.
