Problem with ED visa - overstay or not?

Featured Replies

I have my ED visa till 20.06.15 and prepaid lessons till 26.06.15, and I'll leave the country on 18.06.15, BUT: my last lesson is 10.06.15, because then I'll travel to HuaHin and Bangkok. So my school insist to make a letter for border officers with 10.06.15 as my last lesson day, and then, as I understand, I get overstay 8 days. They don't want to write letter with 18.06.15 and argue that I'll be registered in a hotel in HiaHin, and immi will get this information.

I have no idea how to fix this situation. I can't get a new extension - first, I've already had till 20.06, second, I'm Russian and there is only 7-days extension for Russians, but I get 8 days without lessons.

As for me, it's a very stupid situation, because I never skipped my Thai lessons, and we go to Bkk to issue documents for non-O visa, we do need these few days.

Our border point will be Nong Khai.

Any ideas to help?

You have no other option than to leave on or before the 10th, with a letter from your school to show immigration or you will be on overstay. You could simply make a broder run tomorrow or wednesday to the border. Upon re-entering Thailand you will get a 30 day permisison to stay. Another option is to could cancel the permisison to stay and apply for a 7 day "extension". You will then only have 1 day of overstay, which costs 500 baht.

I don't want to have overstay at all, because I'll get non-O and want all to be clear.

Then do a border run and get 30 days.

Unless you are married to a Thai national you will otherwise not get more than 7 days.

Border run doesn't work. I already got 2 tourist and 1 ED visa, nobody lets me in country with 30-days stamp, especially in Phuket.

What border crossing do you plan on leaving through. Nong Khai is the only crossing that asks for a letter.

The visas you had in the past do not count towards being able to do a visa exempt entry. You just cannot do back to back crossings for another visa exempt entry

If you have no previous visa exempt entries there is no reason for you to be refused one

Phuket is nowhere near any boarder and has no influence on land boarder immigration officers decisions.

Another option you have is to take a cheap flight from Phuket to another country and return to receive a "30 day" stamp.

Nong Khai is my variant. I can't understand if Thai immi really insists on leaving the country the same day with your last lesson. In most cases it's very hard just before of flights timetable or time for picking belongings up.

You can apply for a 7 day extension of stay (1900 Bht) which wiil allow ample time for flights to be booked and packing belongings ............

I see. So, an extension is the best variant in my situation.

Entirely your choice ...............................

The OP states he is Russian and so would he not get 15 days at a land border, as Russia is not a G7 country ?

He will get 30 days based upon a bilateral agreement between Russia and Thailand.

But I'm she, not he) And yes, Russians have 30-days stamp instead visa as tourists. But I can't use it if I've been staying here for a long time already.

If you say so

"But I can't use it if I've been staying here for a long time already."

Why not?
