MOBILE CABINET MEETING
No problems foreseen: Udomdej

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Defence Minister Gen Udomdej Sitabutr yesterday said he was not worried about security for the mobile cabinet meetings to be held in Phitsanulok and Chiang Mai provinces later this month.

He has already ordered the 3rd Army Region Commander Lt Gen Satit Pittarat to provide security throughout the trip and particularly during the premier's visits to several areas.

Prime Minister Prayut Chanocha and his cabinet are scheduled to visit the provinces on June 29 and 30. Both are strongholds of exPrime Ministers Thaksin and Yingluck Shinawatra as well as the Pheu Thai Party. Chiang Mai is the native province of both expremiers.

He added that most Thais acknowledged the work of the government as well as the intention of the PM to bring prosperity to the areas.

Udomdej also expected that the cabinet would receive a warm welcome from the people, as the aim of the visit was to explore and tackle the issues in the region so that it could develop and prosper.

Asked if he was worried about the areas being strongholds of Thaksin and Yingluck, he replied in the negative, adding that Satit, the Interior Ministry, as well as the Royal Thai Police had worked closely to create understanding among the people in the areas.

There had been no problems, except for a few groups, although he was confident these now understood the situation. He reiterated that the government only wanted to create an improved atmosphere and make the country a better place to live. He added he wanted local residents to be happy the PM would there to help solve problems.

This would be an excellent oppoturnity for the PM to visit the villages and meet the local people one on one. Identify and address the issues they are having in their daily lives rather than depending on information from the local government officials with their own personal agends.

Blimey the Thai Govt posing on behalf of the BKK Elite visiting rural Thailand the stronghold of the Reds ... that should be interesting ... LOL

Perhaps Prayut will consider having a mobile cabinet meeting in the South.

I'm sure the Malay-Thais are anxious to acknowledge the work of the Junta-government to subjugate them as it did in the North.

Just ban money transfers from Dubai and the PM will be safe.

Without orders and funding, the red-shirts will stay at home.

They don't believe in anything except the mighty baht.

Why shouldn't he visit the region?

The last time I looked it was not yet the Lanna Kingdom but still a part of Thailand.
