Israel reopens Gaza crossings
English.news.cn

JERUSALEM, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Israel has reopened crossings with the Gaza Strip on Monday, after they were shut down for one day, a Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said.

The crossings, Kerem Shalom and Erez, were closed on Sunday after a rocket launched from Gaza hit an open area in Ashkelon, a city 50 km south of Tel Aviv.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon ordered the military on Monday to reopen the crossings for goods and the passage of people, according to the IDF.

There have been several rocket attacks toward southern Israel in the past several weeks, following a lull in rocket fire since the August 26 ceasefire that ended a 51-day war between Israel and Hamas, the ruler of the Gaza enclave, last summer.

The rocket attacks were followed by air strikes conducted by the IDF in the strip. No injuries or damage were reported.

Maj. Gen. Sami Turgeman, the head of Israel's Southern Command, told Army Radio on Monday that Israel cannot head to another war in Gaza and "destroy the achievements of Operation Protective Edge" over "some rockets launched by a recalcitrant organization."

Should have kept all crossings closed for as long as it takes to

Stop the rockets fired

Stop dead the very concept of "recalcitrant organizations in Gaza"

Yeah, bring in the lovers of "legality" squad in force!

Let me see, - a thief stole from another thief what has belonged to him not !

Those bloody thieving Jews stole back the land that Rome stole from them than Ottomans stole from Romans only to be robbed by British!

Come to think, British Isles should be returned to Papa as well, - if he claims the rights of the Empire long gone.

I wonder if the word "legal" itself doesn't go to Roman 'Legate' or, may be Legion?

Easy way to fix this. Israeli's get out of the areas of Gaza they have ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED.

Good morning and welcome to planet earth. Israel has not occupied Gaza for at least past 8 years

Israelis are not inside Gaza but Gaza is occupied, sort of like a prison if you understand.

Another person posting on something they know nothing about. Do yourself a favour, take the time to actually study the history of the area before posting nonsense. That aside, do tell us all what part of Gaza are Israelis occupying? Or are you referring to the west bank?

Israel decides what goes in and out of Gaza, that sounds like a prison to me.

Israel cripples Gaza and then you have these racists bashing Gazans for not making their situation in life better.

I wonder if a jew born in Gaza and that had to live the rest of his life there would have any better progress and success in life? (This is just a thought experiment. No need for this sentence: "They would kill him in a second because hes a jew".)

Gaza is under full Hamas control .

Israel does not have to by any account allow anything to pass through its borders, Gazza does not like it? Take it up with brothers in Egypt

Are you in the run for the dumbest post of the year?

No Hamas=no attacks=no need for blockade

Closing borders does NOT equal occupation, AGAIN, take it up with Egyptian brothers to open theirs.

Or is it easier to blame Israel because blaming brothers does not make for good headlines?whistling.gif

Crippling Gaza and thus the lives of all Gazans is collective punishment.

Theres no brothers in Egypt. Just as Im not a brother with every protestant Christian.

Israel is an aggressor, why not start a blockade on Israel? Started a war and made Gaza into rubbles over a handful of Israeli citizens, that must be the most disingenous pretext for war. Makes you wonder, were Israel just waiting for a reason to destroy infrastructure and set Gaza back a decade again, lets wait for next time...

When Israel blocks entry to Gaza from the sea the result is that Gaza becomes totally isolated and crippled.

That Egypt has blocked Gaza isnt the problem, the problem is that Gaza is blocked by Israel from the sea.

You dont need to be smug, offending and insulting in every single post.

That Egypt has blocked Gaza isnt the problem, the problem is that Gaza is blocked by Israel from the sea.

Much of the suffering in the Gaza region began in 1948 when Egypt began the extended refusal to integrate the Gazan's into the Egyptian economy and society when the population was relatively small. The isolation and suffering of Gaza began then and has continued to this day, exacerbated by both Egyptian policies and Israeli policies. TO claim that the Israeli blockade is somehow the problem and that the Egyptian blockades are not is simply illogical.

Of course the extended refusal to integrate the West Bank population into Jordan is far more difficult to rationalize as there are no differences between the population on the West Bank and those who live in Jordan. There are numerous cultural differences between Gazans and Egyptians ranging from cultural to linguistic differences. This also led to discrimination from the Egyptians towards the other non-Egyptian groups living in Sinai such as the Bedouin. Many Bedouin clans preferred to align with the Israelis rather than the Egyptians.

The whole world community is waiting for the day when ships freely can come and go to seaports in Gaza.

That Egypt has blocked Gaza wouldnt make any difference when that day comes IMO.

Really? yet does not stop Iran from smuggling rockets by land

So the problem is sea? why because it would be cheaper to bring in rockets?

SO naturally Israel is easier to blame, as i said brothers closing the borders does not make for a catchy headlinecoffee1.gif

When everything else fails mention Iran.

Next time write Hitler with capital letters, its more bang for the buck.

A stop of the Gaza sea blockade would have the result that ships can arrive and leave with goods and products all day everyday.

Israeli Declaration of Independence and its legal border definition is based on UNGA partition plan or plan as resolution 181 of 29 November 1947.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Partition_Plan_for_Palestine

Most posters on TV are confused with the Green Line or armistice demarcation lines and they are falsely taken as legal borders of Israel. Moreover it's known that most Israeli's can't define the Green Line borders correctly...

Quote from link :

"Salomon and Larissa Fleishman conducted a study regarding Israeli students' knowledge of the location of the Green Line and found that not much more than 1/3 could identify its placement; they furthermore found that "students who identify with left-leaning parties are more familiar with the location of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, can sketch them more accurately and are also more aware of the nature of borders."

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Line_(Israel)

Do you really think that Israeli border crossings are within Israeli territory?
