Defense Min says no violence to be used against political groups

BANGKOK, 11 June 2015 (NNT) - Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr said the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will not use violence against those with different political views.

Army Chief General Udomdej, in his capacity as Defense Minister, said he has not received reports of any political movements. He added that Thai people have a good understanding of the NCPO and its functions in government.

However, he admitted that there are several groups that disagree with the current government, particularly college students. General Udomdej said they have not been expressing their viewpoints creatively.

He has called on parents and teachers to remind them that their actions can damage the country's reputation. The Defense Minister insisted that the authorities do not wish to use violence to maintain law and order. They would rather make them understand the current situation.

We will only arrest them, send them for attitude adjustment, use fake/fabricated cases against them to put them in jail, we will show up at 2am to say hi, we will let them run into bullets (a certain political monks quote), we will cover up any wrong doing thus you will never know what we have done, some will disappear, some will be run over by trucks, we will not allow them to speak, we will not allow them to gather, we will put all their leaders in jail, but believe us we will not harm them.

The Thai people have less sovereignty that North Koreans.

Unlike Thais, the North Koreans can at least "exercise power through their representative organs - the Supreme People's Assembly and local people assemblies at all levels." - 1972 Constitution, Article 4
