hi nanlaew (means -for a long time already)
you are great in making fun of the people, they are not even realising it. how can anyone plan a speed train, or plan to live in this area, without any knowledge?
hi deli ,your gf tells you, loei is not good for you, because her thai husband would kill you.

Great place to live, especially if you don't need the madness of Bangkok, ChiangMai etc. You'll find all you need to make yourself a pleasant life. Not too many farangs.... and that's a plus! Learn Thai, and the Thai ways. CU there.

Catweazle...are you reallly a newbie?

Moved to Loei last year, been visiting the place and province since 2000........... When does one stop being a newbie?

I have to survey a high speed rail link through there so I am very interested in the locale before we come and set up camp.

Just curious, why aren't they using Thai surveyors for the train project?
so they can come back and Divide The Country, Properly

The Nok Air in-flight magazine last month was all about Loei, full of guides, where to stay, places to go, see and eat.

Ye I read all that, sounded very interesting, I decided to try it out after reading it.

I understand it's about an hour's drive from Udon.I have never heard anything bad about the town.I plan on checking it out hopefully sooner than later.

An hour's drive???? You won't survive the journey if you do it in 1 hours. Approx. 150 kilometer, with an average speed of 70 kph is what gets you from Udon to Loei. Good luck with the sugar cane trucks and suicidal idiots you are bound to come across.

Yes. The drive from Loei to Udon is not for the faint hearted. I won't be doing it again now I have kids. That stretch of road is the epitome of the asian stereotype when it comes to driving. Road rules are more like suggestions to these people. Try find a Thai who knows what an unbroken line painted on the road means.... They dish out licenses like they're condoms at a clinic
