MINIX ANDRIOD BOX

Not CM, but Lazada have several with the cheapest just under 5,000. I've bought from there several times and delivery has been very fast, although it's the Thai version of Amazon or such like so you're dealing with different suppliers (with no ratings or other way to find out how good or fast they are, but they wouldn't want to get complaints against them or they could be dropped).

Worth a look if nothing else.

I don't have one of these boxes but I am considering buying one.

According to the specs they have a port called OTG which stands for USB on the go. This means that you can attach an external HDD but you need a special OTG cable.which should be supplied with the box.

According to YouTube you can use a wireless keyboard and mouse with the OTG port which would be very handy.

Can someone who actually owns one of these boxes confirm or otherwise?

Yes.

I have a Rii wireless keyboard/keypad plugged into it.

And you don't need special cables, I have two portable USB 3.0 hard disks plugged in and play movies and TV on it (including 3D) without problem.

I also run Kodi/Stalker on it and it's great.

I bought one from Lazada C.O.D. and it works great with usb and external hard drives.

Watch Bloomberg live from the website on Chrome and it works perfect, HD as well and the kids watch cartoons on Chrome and it works perfect for them too.

All in all recommend Lazada COD if you can't find it locally.

I have a Minix Neo, lots of software bugs, and if you complain about anything on the Minix forums they remove your posts and ban you.

Wifi comes and goes, you need to be connected by wire.

3rd party wifi remotes cause the box to crash.

Remote that comes with it very iffy, need to be close and head on to the sensor.

I wouldn't buy a Minix again.

This gets much better reviews

Try using Finless Bob's build.

Works for me.

The CX-S806 has the same chipset as the Minix Neo X8-H but cost half the price

http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/01/04/cx-s806-review-amlogic-s812-tv-box/

Yes.....

Networking is one part of the specs where CX-S806 is much weaker than MINIX NEO X8-H Plus as it comes with Fast Ethernet + 2.4GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, while the latter features Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

The new models of CX-S806 have dual wifi 2.4G/5Ghz.

You can go into eternity with specs, but why you need gigabit ethernet when 10/100 is more than sufficient for full Hd movies?

How common is 4K yet? How many people have a 4K television yet?

The Minix Neo X8 has a HDMI 1.4 port, which is not capable to transmit 4K. You need a HDMI 2.0 for that, which is present on the CX-S806.

By the time 4K is common and people have 4K TV's, these boxes are old news.

That's why I went for the Q.

Your Q- Box has HDMI 1.4, so not much future proof I would say.

HDMI 2.0 vs 1.4: 4K video at 50p and 60p

light-c.jpg

HDMI 1.4 introduced the kind of bandwidth required to deliver 4K video, but HDMI 2.0 can dole out 4K video without compromise, at 50 and 60 frames per second. In HDMI 1.4, the rate of 4K was limited to 24 frames per second.

image: http://static.trustedreviews.com/94/00002d70b/2d1e/4k-logo.jpg

4k-logo.jpg24p and 30p are perfect for watching films, but there are times when the extra speed of 50p and 60p come in handy. Gaming could make great use of 60p content, while more films are being shot at higher frame rates, giving quite a different look from that of slow old traditional cinema.

As for your Gigabit Ethernet, good luck with your 4K streaming in Thailand

http://www.mellanox.com/blog/2014/04/4k-video-drives-new-demands/

John-Kim-040814.jpg

The Power of The Network

Uncompressed 4K requires 9.2Gb/s nominal per stream, which overwhelms either 10GbE or 8Gb FC. Customers must aggregate multiple network links to each workstation, resulting in major headaches around routing, security, and network management. 16Gb Fibre Channel can handle one uncompressed 4K-Full stream but is expensive and still unable to handle multiple streams for 3D video or compositing.

And what you do with 3D movies in 4K, or movies that are shot at 50 or 60 frames, as there are many these days.

You shouldn't conveniently have stopped reading after your quote, it all there on the same wiki page.

Version 2.0

HDMI 2.0, referred to by some manufacturers as HDMI UHD, was released on September 4, 2013.[146]

HDMI 2.0 increases the maximum TMDS per channel throughput from 3.4 Gbit/s to 6 Gbit/s which allows for a maximum total TMDS throughput of 18 Gbit/s.[146] This allows HDMI 2.0 to carry 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (fps).[146][147][148] Other features of HDMI 2.0 include the options of the Rec. 2020 color space, Dual View, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, 25 fps 3D formats, up to 32 channels of audio, up to 1536 kHz audio (for example 7.1 channels of 192 kHz), up to 4 audio streams, 21:9 aspect ratio, the HE-AAC and DRA audio standards, dynamic auto lip-sync, improved 3D capability, and additional CEC functions.[146]

So what is so superior on your Q-box that the CX-S806 hasn't?

The CX-S806 is 72$ delivered at your doorstep on Ebay by the way.

I just notice that your Q-box doesn't even have a Amlogic S812 cpu, but a S802 which isn't able to decode H.265 so how about your HDCP 2.2 which also requires HDMI 2.0, and what about your Gigabit Ethernet?

http://www.vipstech.com/industry-news/amlogic-s802-805-812-which-match-your-requirements.html

20141129015646_37397.jpg

S802 – Good for 1080p and 4K video playback. Excellent performance with a quad core processor, Octa core GPU. Could be also used as a pretty good gaming platform. No HEVC support.

S812 – Same as S802 but adding H.265/HEVC video decoding up to 4K and Gigabit Ethernet. This makes it more future proof than S802, and it could potentially be used as a media center with a USB hard drive and Gigabit Ethernet connection.
