Well if you are desperate to make Thailand look normal, then you can quote maybe the statistics for say - number of crashes per F-16 Take Off (or crash before it even managed to take off) since the plane first went into service, and then compare them with the US stats.....

Glad the driver was alright. Has to be an old original as Thailand has not upgraded or purchased the upgraded F-16 models which would run circles, so to speak, around the "little boys" as I call them, currently in service. Still the best "bang for the buck" around, like the Timex and C-130, and although not a F design, the A-10, takes a beating and keeps on ticking. I live in the military pattern and when the 16's are in town is is very obvious. Maybe the only thing louder were the A-10's here a couple of years back. A good driver in the seat of a late model block of F-16 could probably beat that piece of junk F-35 in a real dogfight, that is if the F-35 could get off the ground, it wasn't night and the weather wasn't bad...lol.

That's because it's lying in a ditch with a broken nose feeling sorry for itself.

Air force types use the term "ditched the plane" when there's a major problem, in this case the pilot followed procedure correctly.

Anyway, I am sure the RTAF can dig up a few more operable units.

The article is so brief and the details given so vague that it's hard to tell exactly what happened. I can tell you that on a "normal training" flight the engine is not "run-up" until on the runway and taking off. Now if he was experiencing any sort of engine anomalies he may have run up the engine to try and trouble shoot the problem, however I can't imagine doing so without the brakes being set or at least applied. The good news is that the zero / zero ejection seat worked as promised, though I'm not sure it was actually needed . . . again the article is very short on details. Check Six boys!

Many years ago when I was in the RAF, engine personnel used to groud run the engines. To do this the brakes were on and locked and the wheels were double chocked and chained. One of our guys was doing a ground run and the aircraft jumped the chocks and the brakes but fortunately he shut the engine down immediately and there was no damage.

I live right under their flight path in Korat, for take off & landing.

They frighten the SH!T out of me. Watching them drive on the road is bad enough
