I just wanted to know how the Quails are being grown in farms in the cages system? Please share whatever the information you know about it.

My wife wanted to do this, but after she told me I had to build these cages with net around and how much little money you get back I told her no, maybe someone can enlighten me if there is any profitability in keeping quails.

I am raising quail and making a fair profit. I could make a lot more if my health would allow me to have a bigger flock. Giving you all the details is not something I could do in a single post. Are you anywhere near Petchabun?

I spent a couple of hundred hours researching on the internet some of which was on forums. after that, I visited 3 different farms here in Thailand and became friends with several quail farmers in the states. Lately I have viewed most of the videos on You-tube. I started with 100 layers for a trial and ended up with over a thousand layers. There was still a big learning curve. I am still researching, experimenting and keeping records.

If you wanted to maintain a laying flock of about 1100 hens you could make about 10,000 baht a month and probably more. My guess is that if you had the land it would cost you 130,000 baht or so to get completely up and running (less if you can do some of the work). It would also be possible for you to spend 500,000 baht to get started and make nothing. There are a thousand little things that can bit you in your behind. I can buy here 100 eggs for 85 Bath.

One quail eat about 35 gramm/day.

The bag cost 500 Bath/30kg.

100 quail give 80 - 90 eggs with commercial feed. If you mix by your self, you cut the cost but also the eggs.

Better buy a small cow and feed them with grass.

we dont all pay through the nose for our feed, i buy my pig feed direct at cost the same as the shops buy it,

. 1000 Bird eat every day about nearly one bag. But in the rainseasoin i not like to have to many bags at home. Better buy them freh every week from the shop. If a Farm have maybe 10000 Bird it will look differnat.

But in my eyes, in the Quailfarming the money not come from selling the eggs.

We tried quail farming, its bloody hard work for very little profit. We had 1,000 quail and used to mix our own feed for them which is cheaper than buying CP or Betagrow feed but adds to the work. We used to mix it is a small cement mortar mixer. I have an Excel workbook that can computer the mix proportions depending on the required protein content. It's a complex worksheet and needs detailed input for the basic ingredients but if anyone wants a copy then PM me.

I built the cages to be quite durable, the materials for one cost about 4500 baht but increased when I put wheels on which we found essential to facilitate cleaning. Apart from collecting the eggs daily and selling them the work includes cleaning the sh*t out every day and adding water twice a day, although I eventually installed automatic water feeders in one cage as an experiment. We eventually gave up because it was all too much of a drag for very little profit.

I made 10 cages, each big enough to hold up to 50 birds max per shelf although we rarely had more than 35 per shelf. We put the cages inside an area we then enclosed with netting to keep the local birds away from the expensive feed.

If you buy your hens, you will need to replace them about every 8 months. The spent layers can be slaughtered and sold. We get about 35 baht each. We hatch our own and I run about 60-65% males and make a profit on those too. I have mixed my own layer feed, but for the price and production I do as well with Betagro layer feed. I do mix my own grower ration as I run a larger breed of quail and need at least 28% protein. Now I only run a few hundred birds max and hatch chicks every 3 weeks so have males and spent layers to sell each 3 week period.

I like the cages WF made, but adequate cages could be build for a small fraction. It does require work, but a profit can be made.
