My passport is full - getting a new one next week from Aussie embassy in Bkk.

Do I take both passports with me when I go to Penang for next visa application or do I go to Thai immigration here beforehand?

Any advice appreciated.

You should go to immigration first to transfer your current permitted to stay stamp to your new passport. Embassy should give you a letter request but even without immigration can do it.
