Marmite, Heinz baked beans, PG Tips and more at Tesco

Featured Replies

Same at Tesco, Loei. Has had for at least the past two years. Can't get any vegemite here, hanging out for a good serving, forget that crap, Marmite, just a poor copy. Also Feta cheese, hankering to cook some good Italian but can't find any of this here either. Are there any stockists in Udon Thani, I have no problems in travelling the 300 k round trip just to get some. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

Umm, i think you will find that vegemite copied Marmite. Marmite was around at least 30 years before Vegemite, so i would say Vegemite is the copy.

Yes, the clue is in the name!

It would be nice if TESCO brought over some of their own brand teas - they do a really nice ultra-strong premium blend....."Tesco's Finest" range....

Thanks for that...i know Marmite came before, but do you know when? Late 1800's? Were you around then? 55555

Cumgranosalum,

Thanks again, but shushhh, don't tell the Aussies we got Marmite from the Germans...mind you, so did they...555

As an Anglo-Aussie, I lived in Sydney for a while near an area called Epping.

I told a girl-friend of mine that there was also an Epping in London...

"Oh, Really" she said.."was it named after the one in Sydney?"

I was in yesterday and just had to pick up a tin of corned beef!

I left the Branston though, as that would have me eating too much cheese!!

I keep looking here ,and then feel hungry. A Texan asked me where I came from .?.Portugal I replied..........That's Cool, down South America way.never been though..At least in the U.S. Food was Cool.

TESCOs seem to have a promotion island in a lot of their stores - even outside major expat areas - with a range of stuff from parent company in UK.

i guess they will see what sells.

I notice that they have a range of Mueslis - they are all quite reasonably priced...if you compare by weight to the Hahne 1kg pack @ 180 baht.

I noti=ce that M&S are also carrying a good range of teas.

As for Vegemite - it is widely available around Thailand, apart from a few specialist stores Big C carry it at some stores as do Tops.....if you are in Loei, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't get some in Udon.

Given that Marmite was invented prior to Vegemite it would seem that Vegemite is in fact the copy..... I have tried it and whilst it is OK (ish) Marmite is better to my taste anyway.

My healthfreak mate used to swear by "Promite" - said it was far superior to Vegemite....until I read the label to him......it is in fact Vegemite with added sugar......so much for healthier....it is tastier though....

It might be more accurate if you said Vegemite (1923) was a later but superior copy/version of Marmite(1902), a fact with which I, (being a(Limey / Canuck )would disagree.
