Hi All,

I am hoping to obtain some clarification on a few things, as I believe my Thai partner and I may have been somewhat confused in regard to the Non-Imm 'O' visa.

I am in the Kingdom on a 60 day TR visa with 30 day extension. Our plan, once married, was to then apply for the Non-Imm 'O' whilst still in the Kingdom, but from reading the threads here and searching online, I can really only see that the Non-Imm 'O' must be applied for out of the country.

Is it correct that this visa can only be obtained outside of Thailand ? Or is there the option to obtain said visa in-country ?

I understand that the one year extension based on marriage is essentially only an extension of stay stamp, not a visa, but can the one year extension be granted only on a Non-Imm 'O' visa or could such an extension be granted on a TR visa ?

If in fact the Non-Imm 'O' can only be obtained outside Thailand, do I have to obtain it in my home country (Australia) or can I obtain it at any Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad ? What is the usual timing on obtaining the visa ?

I thank you all in advance for any light you may be able to shed on this for me,

Many Thanks,

Khun Dang.

You must have a non immigrant visa entry to apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage.

You can apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa entry at immigration in Bangkok based upon qualifying for an extension based upon marriage, Your wife must go with you and you will need to have all supporting documents and financial proof needed for an extension, You must have 15 days remaining on your current entry. It will require 2 trips to immigration 15 days apart to get the visa/entry.stamps.

If not living in or near Bangkok it would be best to go out for a single entry non-o visa.

You can get a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage in Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos and Penang Malaysia. You would only need your marriage certificate and copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.
