Pattaya Bay with the coast all lit up looks gorgeous at night-- or at the distance during the day time. You just don't want to get up close and see or smell the reality of the the murky sewer water in the bay.

Pattaya ....... such a lovely place whistling.gif

and you've waiting all day for a chance to Pattaya bash?

Before you start bashing and looking like a fool you should explore the possibilities as many people jump to illogical conclusions.

There is a possibility that the OP was bitten by sea lice. http://www.oceanfit.com.au/sea-lice-an-itchy-problem/ which is far more likely than him developing a rash from petrol or diesel spills.

pattaya was the gem of asia years ago

How many years?

I've known it for over 35 years and in all that time it has never been any sort of gem.

Boracay was though, at least until about 20 years ago.

Boracay may be a gem of a tropical island beach resort, but have you ever tried to stay there for a month. I have, and it's an extremely boring place to be for more than a few days. In fact, I've been to Boracay at times when you couldn't swim - the sea lice were so bothersome.

Pattaya and Boracay are hardly places to compare, just as you wouldn't compare Pattaya with Australian Great Barrier Reef Islands.

its so true, imagine the sex on the beach here, sand is one thing,

It was not that long ago, you did not have to imagine...

But nowadays there are very few Russians around... gigglem.gif

Persons who voluntarily enters the water in the Bay for a swim, must either be blind or insane !!

The OP did...

Also their are plenty others who do, have a look next you pass by...

If it was that bad then no one would swim there... Just another Pattaya knockers thread.

not a good idea to swim there in the rainy season, all the sewers overflow into the sea when it rains, mostly at the end of pattaya tai, so you are pretty much swimming in a sewer.

First time I went to Pattaya 2001 the hotel staff warned us when we got there don't go in the sea...if we really needed to go in the sea go to one of the Islands or at the worst Jontiem..they were quite clear about the sewage and other nasties floating there..so we didn't..and haven't been back since.Went to Koh Chang instead

when we built our R&R bungalow on the beach in april 64 before the main road was Tarmacced and concrete and brothels moved into the hamlet that is now Pattaya, snorkelling with Mantas and whale sharks in the bay and the game fishing was spectular in the pristine waters anong the coast, 59 and 54 Sqn royal engineers also built BARBOS the first pub in pattaya, the rot set in after 66 as the yanks came as soon as pattaya got its first VD Clinic it was time to move on, pattaya has been going downhill ever since

It sounded paradise.

Went to Kata beach in 1994, beautiful. Now, ruined. Same as chewang in 94, dirt road & a few bars, now ruined, same as Krabi in 94, get my drift. A real pity but as I keep telling my wife Thais are greedy people whether it's about money or good.

Granddad always told me how nice Pattaya was when he's in Vietnam and went to Pattaya for recreational purposes.

He said there's pot and heroin for free in restaurants at almost all tables, given by some friendly Vietcong.

One day, they found him dead in his bungalow, after having a lot of fun with his not even 18 year old girlfriend.

Luckily, he came and went at the same time. RIP, granddad.

want a rash go swim pattaya If someone is rash or does rash things, they act without thinking carefully first, and therefore make mistakes or behave foolishly.

Want a rush of go swim Ko Phangan. If you experience a rush of a feeling, you suddenly experience it very strongly.

Want to wait in in a rush hour go swim Bangkok. If you need three hours for two kilometers in a cab, then you're in a rush hour.

Want to see cops rush to scene go swim Thailand. If you see cops who walk so slowly that you could remove their footwear, while they're walking, they rush to a crime scene.

Next one, please. thumbsup.gif

Pattaya has just gone the way the US wanted it to go, a place for their troops and auxiliary services to bring their whores and drugs and venereal disease, everywhere US forces set up bases on the land of smiles, areas of Brothels and Bars followed also estates of bungalows were built to accommodate live in girlfriends,in Korat and Ubon these estates had permanent VD Clinics, as the yanks discovered Pattaya for R&R so the Mommasans from Bkk started bussing their girls down to Pattaya and so it began!!A polluted sea was always a problem even in the early 70,s at certain times of the year due to the factories and the massed naval developments from Sattahib and further south, now with all the building development along the coast the sewage works just cannot cope, earlier in this thread some one mentioned the Barrier reef on the east coast of Australia, Because of overdevelopment many stretches of prestine beaches are permanently closed for swimming because of fire algae this algae is caused by Faecal and chemical runoff contaminating the sea water, Pattaya caters to a specific type of tourist, we always visit friends in Sattahib when we are in the area, but gone are the seafood restaurants on the beach only accessible by boat and the friendly pods of dolphins!

I never touched Pattaya bay. Two years ago I would still swim over in Jomtien. Not so sure I will do that on my next trip. Ko Larn is probably as close to Pattaya as I will swim. Or simply divide my time and money between Karon beach in Phuket and Pattaya. Pattya is cheaper and has plenty of night life and decent prices. Then go to Phuket and Karon for swimming and less going out.

Larn has thousands of visitors every day- where do you think all the sewage goes? 55555555

Jeezus...if youse freakin whingers don't like it here in sunny Pattaya

p××s off back to where ever the hell it is youse come from...

nobody is forcing youse to stay here......

"Whining" like this is valuable information to folks pondering where to spend their vacation time and money. Beats the travel brochures if I don't want to end up regretting a holiday decision...

Almost yearly we, as a family, go to Jomtien. When I say family I am talking about 10 of us. Two years ago kids had a great time in the sea most days over the period of a week, never got sick or had any rash. Just had a good time.

It was a job in itself to get them to come out.

Made some friends on the beach also with kids, they played together on the beach and in the sea for best part of a week.

Went again this year but arrived the same day as the mega flood, so all the crap from Jomtien was washed into the sea and it and the beach near the newly created natural wonder of Nam Tok Soi 5 did not look too good.

We stayed for a few days and moved over to Koh Samet.

That was nice.

20 years since I first went there.

Still nice now.

I have never been in the sea at Pattaya bay though.

Stop knocking Pattaya.

The Chinese & Indians like it.wink.png

" The Chinese & Indians like it."

Well let's just hope it doesn't become like the beaches north of Bombay where the first thing you see early in the morning is hundreds of people sitting together in a crouched position on the beachbah.gif

Party town yes, but at least since 1993 it has never been renowned for golden beaches.
