Wife Returning to Thailand with Thai p/port 4 months validity after entering Japan on UK p/port

Featured Replies

Hi

This is a complicated one, lets see if anyone is less confused than I am right now wai2.gif

We are off to Japan for a weeks holiday/ visa run in a few weeks time

My wife and daughter have British and Thai passports

Both their passports expire in November ( Less than 6 Months validity )

We were hoping that they can leave Thailand on their Thai passports

Enter Japan on their British passports ( to get better care incase of emergency etc)

Re-enter Thailand on their Thai passports

I am a bit concerned that at check in the Air Asia may say they require ^ months validity on their Thai Passports to fly or if they do fly then when they arrive back in thailand they require 6 months validity to re-enter

also I am worried if this happens they may be forced to re-enter Thailand using their British passport causing us all sorts of problems.

Is it best just to re-new their Thai passports now to save the worry?facepalm.gif which common sense suggestsclap2.gif

thanks, sorry to confuse you all so early in the morning (thai Time)

At check-in they can show both passports.

They can even enter Thailand on an expired passport (but not leave on one). Airaisa is aware of the rules and can check this in the IATA database.

Really? Okay I was never aware of either of those facts. Thank you

A Thai national would never be forced to enter Thailand on a foreign passport. Whatever assistance the British Embassy in Japan may be willing to provide depends on being a British national, not on what passport is used to enter the country. The question is whether Japan will permit a foreigner to enter the country on a passport with less than 6 months validity. I don't know the answer, but you should be able to find out, if by no other way than calling the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok. Air Asia enforces whatever requirement the Japanese govt has established. The best thing for your family members to do would be to renew their Thai passports which only takes a day or so. Then they will have no problem whatever the Japanese regulation.

yes, but their British passports are both valid for 5 years or so

but the thai ones are only valid for a few months

so, i assume they can leave and get back into thailand on their thai ones & enter and leave japan on their British ones

That should be no problem.

Yes. But you wrote

The first meaning of this is "both passports (for each person) will expire"

OOPs. Yes I agree, sorry about that.

I meant both my daughter and wife`s Thai passports expire at the same time in November
