webfact Posted June 30, 2015 Author Share Posted June 30, 2015 Former Rama IX Café proprietor gunned downBANGKOK: -- Metropolitan police are trying to figure out the motives for the murder of former night entertainment tycoon Somyos Suthangkoon.The proprietor of Rama IX (Phra Ram 9) Café, a wellknown restaurant and entertainment venue at the Rama IX area, was gunned down at the car park of Heng shark’s fin restaurant as he was leaving the premise with his wife at the driving seat of Mercedes Benz at about 8 pm Monday night.Video footage at the restaurant saw two gunmen approaching the 62-year old Mr Somyos and firing shots at him before escaping in a motorcycle.Pol Gen Ruangsak Charit-aek, the deputy national police chief, said that the two gunmen arrived at the shark’s fin restaurant to scout the area since 5 pm. He said that police had questioned several eyewitnesses but was yet to question the victim’s wife who was still in a state of shock.Initially, police suspected business conflicts as the likely motive of the murder.Mr Somyos was a frequent customer at the restaurant. Point taken, but he makes his protest,and in the case of sharks, their fins are hacked off while they are alive and the bodies thrown back into the ocean. Animals for human consumption OTOH are normally humanely killed (except halal) and their suffering is limited in most cases. Shark finning is an abomination and enormous waste. Somyos Suthangkul, owner of the Phra Ram IX cafe and X-Zyte nightclub, said he would be happy to comply with the new rules, but that he didn't have the proper equipment to measure volume levels.He called on the government to provide experts to measure the noise levels at his venues before he was asked to make any necessary adjustments. These guys make their money and when they've had enough its more viable to run it into the ground than do the honest thing On the wind-down, take all you can from the business...Last three months pay no bills and collect all the money you can. Oh, and its not a Thai thing either, just look how Mr Trump does more or less the same thing and its made legal.
