Chiang Mai Fencing Club is adding another day to play

Featured Replies

Due to increasing membership and increasing demand, the Chiang Mai Fencing Club will now be open on Wednesday evenings as well as continuing our regular Saturday activities.

The club is always looking for new members, beginners or experienced players, young or old. The ages of our fencers run from 11 to 68, both male and female. We will teach beginners how to fence, and we have plenty of club equipment for new members to use. There is no membership fee, nor charges for group lessons or for equipment use.

Fencing is an endurance sport. It's a Martial Art. It's often called a 'moving chess game.' It's hard exercise in the style of 'Interval Training' combined with Cardio workout. It's an easy sport to learn, and a beginner in half-decent physical condition can be playing in just a week or two, fencing against opponents if full combat, and having fun. There is no pain, and it's a very safe sport. In fact, there are more injuries in Olympic table tennis than there are in Olympic Fencing!

People are more than welcome to come and watch, or if you wish, wear loose clothing and gym shoes/trainers, bring a towel and a bottle of water, and give it a try. For more information, just send me a PM and I'll give you directions to the club and the times we meet. There is a reason this sport has lasted 6,000 years. (There is a fencing match complete with protective masks and blunted weapons painted on the walls inside one of the Egyptian pyramids!) Give it a try!
