ABS vs UBS on Tricity

Featured Replies

ABS worth the extra 10,000 baht?

Thanks.

ABS has been proved to work, it is well proven technology.

Although for most of the time normal brakes will work just as well

How good at braking are you?

In panic situations a grab at the brake will cause a wheel to lock. Very experienced riders are less likely to be surprised and grab at a brake.

But even experienced riders can get caught out by loose gravel or wet roads.

Depends if you can afford the extra.

Yes agreed, and 10k baht is a fairly high % of the sticker price on the scooter.

If it was a big bike, yes ABS is well worth the extra cost but never really missed it on my scooters but have needed it on my 650cc bike sometimes.

If the 10k baht extra is okay for you, get it.

I have the UBS and never think I would need ABS since I also upgraded to Michelin Citygrips.

I think it would be hard to crash this bike because it doesn't provoke fast riding.

Still 10k is very cheap insurance. Any trip to the hospital would cost more than that.

Thanks for the responses.

At this moment I am convince it is the right decision. It was what I had been leaning toward from the beginning.

Thanks again.

Update:

According to a dealer today in Bangkok Yamaha has quit making the ABS edition of the Tricity. Wasn't selling.

Talked with another dealer about ordering and they just called to say Yamaha has quit offering the Tricity in Thailand. Said Thai people not interested.

That doesn't surprise me at all.

If it doesn't say Honda on it; 80% of Thais will ignore it.

This country is about following trends, not making them.
