Abhisit reiterates stand against blanket amnesty

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva Friday suggested that the reconciliation committee of the National Reform Council should push for amnesty for ordinary people who joined past rallies instead of pushing a blanket amnesty.

He said if ordinary people are pardoned, reconciliation will take place. He said the proposed amnesty should not cover corruption and criminal cases.

29-year-old Sarawut Jaksien was caught trying to pawn a fake necklace to a gold shop in Rassada.

PHUKET: -- Police are cuurently hunting for a gang of six people who are believed to be pawning fake gold jewellery to gold shops. The hunt comes following the arrest of a man from Kalasin yesterday (July 2) who pawned a fake gold chain at jewellery shop in Rassada.

Prem in perfectly good health, close aide insists

BANGKOK: -- Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda is in good health, his close aide said yesterday, in a bid to deny recent rumours.

Lt-General Pissanu Putthawong, chief of the office of the Statesman's Foundation, pointed out that Prem had attended a social function on Thursday, adding that rumours like this are spread from time to time by people with ill intentions.

"It is a distortion of fact. I ask you [media] to inform the public that this is not true," he said.

Ong-art Meekaew, 29,has admitted to taking part in the murder of Supercheap worker Nattapon Nukulwhen just after midnight on Tuesday.

PHUKET: Police have caught one man in connection with the murder of a Supercheap worker in the early hours of yesterday morning (July 2). However, a second man from Nakorn Sri Thammarat is still being hunted.
