Just reconfirming a few things.

Is PLA KAPHONG used to refer to:

1. Snapper in general (the generic name for the Lutjanidae family of fish).

2. Barramundi, Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) - the same as PLA KAPHONG KHAO (ปลากะพงขาว).

I also understand that the following PLA KAPHONG species are correct (I hope):

3. PLA KAPHONG DAENG (ปลากะพงแดง)

Lutjanus argentimaculatus: red mangrove snapper, mangrove jack (Australia)

4. PLA KAPHONG DAENG KLET HANG (ปลากะพงแดงเกล็ดห่าง)

Lutjanus johni: golden snapper, John's snapper

5. PLA KAPHONG DAENG NATANG (ปลากะพงแดงหน้าตั้ง)

Lutjanus sebae: emperor red snapper

Thank you so much for your help.

Dear AyG,

Thank you for your 2 replies. Actually, I had this listed as PLA KAPHONG (PLA KRAPHONG), which I now realize I should not have.

This was discussed in a previous post in April, 2014.

To summarize:

1. TRANSLITERATION

I will show it as only PLA KAPHONG.

2. MEANING OF PLA KAPHONG

a. The Perciformes order of bony fish.

b. Snapper in general (the generic name for the Lutjanidae family of fish).

c. Barramundi, Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) - the same as PLA KAPHONG KHAO (ปลากะพงขาว).

3. PLA KRAPHONG (ปลากระป๋อง)

This means canned or tinned fish.

I hope my understanding is correct.

Again, thank you for your help.
