Saying "how frequent"

Featured Replies

บ่อยไหม vs บ่อยแค่ไหม

Hello, I have been learning Thai for about 6 months now and am having trouble understanding how to ask questions like: "Do you go to Krabi frequently?" and "How frequently do you go to Krabi?"

My teacher and other Thai people tell me that the following two examples have the same meaning which is "How frequently do you go to Krabi?"

1. คุณไปกระบี่บ่อยไหม

2. คุณไปกระบี่บ่อยแค่ไหม

But I want to interpret 1 as "Do you go to Krabi frequently?" Can somebody help me understand the grammar and if 1 really is "How frequently do you go to Krabi?" then what is the correct way to say "Do you go to Krabi frequently?"

Actually 1 is like "Do you go to Krabi frequently?" while 2 is like "How frequently do you go to Krabi?"

1 is like asking casually if one frequently goes to Krabi, while 2 one would like to know exact frequency how often you go to Krabi.

So answer to 1 would can be "ไปบ่อย" or even "ไม่เคยไปเลย" or "ไปเกือบทุกเดือน", but answer to 2 must be more specific such as "ไปเกือบทุกเดือน" or "ไปทุกอาทิตย์".

There is a slight distinction between question 1 and 2 in that 1, one may not even be sure if you have ever been to Krabi, but question 2, one already knows you do go to Krabi frequently and would like to know just how frequent you go there.

Oh, I also noticed that you've written it WRONG.

It's บ่อยไห and บ่อยแค่ไห

"boi mai" and "boi khae nai"
