As everyone (including many members of Thai Visa) busily slags off English teachers, why is there little discussion about the ownership/management of these "English language" schools who:

* Require their teachers to work illegally because they will not provide proper documents and have no interest in doing so

* Have no commitment to education standards (probably because they have never in their 'education' been themselves exposed to the concept)

The farang teachers have on the whole done a yeoman's job in this country down through the years under laughable circumstances and poor pay; many of them have actually tried to teach and often received in return lousy pay and actual (indirect, behind the back, of course) abuse from 'administrators' and their Thai colleagues.

Frankly, it’s a joke.

I think teachers or potential teachers from around the world should actually boycott working in Thailand until the government and owners of these fly-by-night establishments show a dedication to education that includes decent pay and working conditions.

Schools should not be owned, and run at the whim of, any one person, and should have a governing board that has some – even modest – clue about what education actually is.

For the record: I am not, nor ever have been, and English teacher.
