Changing from ED Visa to Tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hi all :),

Has anyone changed from Ed Visa to Tourist visa?

My Ed visa is expiring this month. Would it be possible for me to got to Laos and get a tourist visa?

TIA :)

Yes, absolutely.

In reality you do not change anything. You just leave the country and apply for a tourist visa and return using it for entry to the country,

No problem to apply for a tourist visa in Laos.

No problem except if you leave by land via Nongkhai....

What's the problem with leaving via Nongkhai ?

Because they had been asking for a letter from you school to cancel your extension unless you had already cancelled it.

There have been recent reports that they are no longer asking for it though.

Ok thanks.

But if your ED visa is already expired when you go back to thailand you are not supposed to have any letter from the school right ?

(let's say my ED visa ends the 18th august, and I enter Laos on the 17th and go back to thailand on the 19th)

The reason they wanted the letter on departure is to catch people that had stopped going to school several weeks or months before leaving and could no longer get a letter from a school to match their departure date.

You would not need the letter for entry.

I went from ED to double entry tourist visa via land at nong kai 4 months ago and they didnt ask for letter from my school
