I understand that when buying a new Honda (cash) a standard insurance policy is included.

Is there any personal injury content please ?

That is, to others driving the bike in particular.

Is it renewed annually ?

Thank You

Hello DisparateDan,

There are 2 types of motorcycle insurance here in Thailand.

1. Compulsory - Thai law required this as it covers the person that you hit (let's hope not)

2. Voluntary - You may or may not buy it but It is a must ! Voluntary covers own damage, fire & theft, third-personal liability (their bikes & property), and Personal accident for passengers & drivers on both side.

Most of the time when you buy a motorcycle in thailand, they will come with compulsory insurance only. And the buyer have to buy voluntary insurance separated and some would even purchase an additional personal accident plan to cover themselves in case some severe cases happen.

And yes, these insurance needs to be renewed annually.

The motorcycle insurance here in Thailand is relatively cheap, for a type2+ it will cost around 1,999 baht while cheapest P.A. plan is only 850 baht.

Thank you for info.

I have found out that the voluntary cover I unknowingly had, expired on 5th of this month, and the driver had an "accident", (burnt her hand on exhaust). on the 6th.

She went to Bangkok Pattaya and there is a bill for Baht4000, which I have paid. She has a bagful of antibiotics, I guess not taken.

I guess Bangok Pattaya would expect many visits for dressings. I went to their Clinic near Big C to have a few stitches removed, they wanted me to see their doctor.

I went to a little place near Tucom, 5 minute job, 150 baht.

Also the injured party has intimated that their are TWO police accident reports to be paid for at 600 baht each !!!

The www.pvr.co.th provided the insurance and were very helpful on the 'phone, told me any driver is insured on the most basic policy, about Baht300, but I would have appreciated a reminder that the policy needed renewal.

Please correct me if wrong but I understood you could claim on the compulsory govt. insurance for up to about 16k baht (Ie your own insurance)? A friend of mine said he did this when he injured himself...........whistling.gif

Presumably your tax disc is also now out of date as well? If so you need to pay the insurance before you can renew it and suggest you do so quickly otherwise that will potentially be more police fines if you get stopped.

As you have learnt you cannot rely on reminders here in Thailand and need to diarise these sorts of things.

None of my business smile.png but do not understand why the police were involved - (what was her hand doing on the exhaust?blink.png ) Also why did they go to BPH which everybody and his dog knows is very expensive for something any clinic could have dealt with..............facepalm.gif

The road tax was valid until 7th of next month. Second anniversary.

Yesterday the voluntary insurance was renewed and a new tax disc for next year provided.

Reading the other posts and links here, it seems that the compulsory insurance covers an injury to a driver, can anyone really define this please

as it was operative.

I am equally circumspect about the whole thing, but adding stupidity to deviousness would send me into a circular loop, I do not wish to cope with.

The girl is expecting a baby tomorrow, so how much there may be some kind of scam, I haven't the heart to delve into it. Her sex/private life is nothing

whatsoever to do with me.

Why I am involved would take a small book.
