PATTAYA: -- On Wednesday Morning, the Pattaya Tourist Police arrested a man wanted on an arrest warrant dating back to 2007.

Khun Tidawat aged 31 was arrested in the car park of the View Talay Condominium thanks to a tip-off. Without the information Police say it was unlikely the man would have been caught as he had changed his name when he arrived in Pattaya through official channels from his original name of Khun Tongchai, the name stated on the arrest warrant.

8 years on the run. All because he robbed the cash till where he worked. Its pretty sad. He's only cheated himself really.

Amazing thay the Thai can change their name as they wish and no background check is done bu officials before changing the name.

Very "developed" IT infrastructure I would guess.

He changed his name on the advise of a fortune teller lol

No, his lawyer

All the while fighting my own cynicism, I still wonder if he was too broke to pay the cops.

Not just Thailand, many countries allow name changes for any reason, Uk for instance.

Presume like other official departments staff can be persuaded not to check and misfile official records of such changes...
