Taksin Hospital Surat Thani or similar for giving birth vs C Section

Hi

I am pregnant and I been looking through the best affordable options for giving birth in Thailand.

I am not covered by an insurance for pregnancy and must pay for it upfront. I live in Koh Phangan, so I have been looking around Surat Thani, Samui Bangkok and

the ones I looked at are:

Taksin Hospital Surat Thani http://www.taksinhosp.go.th/th/service.aspx

Nathon samui government hospital

Vibraha Hospital http://www.vibharam.com/th/vibharamhospitalEN/package.php?id=29&content=package

Rajavithi Hospital http://www.rajavithi.go.th/eng/_servic.php

As I had complications before I am maybe considering a c section, depending on what the doctor think,

I would like to hear recommendations from you guys and experiences.

Please note, I am trying to cut the costs, but still want a pretty goodish hospital with qualified doctors.

\

I rather it not go over 50000 baht if no complications

Thanks for all your help :)

Move it to relevant forum, a bit lost here in general.

Talsin hospital in Surat is a private hospital & is recommended by many Samui residents, so is Nathon public hospital on Samui.

Just a quick note, looking after baby. Yes my wife had c section here. 33000 3 days. It was OK. But I wasn't around at birth. I had to wait in corridor. The ward itself is clean, nice room, good nurses.

it would help if you mentioned the hospital

If you are worried about costs I would stick to a government hospital. The initial difference may not be much, but if there are complications the costs in a private hospital could escalate quickly. In most private hospitals, at least out side of Bangkok the doctors also work in the Government Hospitals. That is why usually you can only see them at night or on weekends, during the week they are working Sgt a government hospital.

Indeed it would, Thaksin Hospital Surat Thani.

One problem that did occur, although the procedure went smoothly and my wife's scar is minimal, she had a bad headache and puked up a few hours, perhaps just the general trauma of being operated on, or a reaction to the epidural.

Yes, budgeting is very important, because as unpleasant as it is you have to factor in what could happen if you or baby are sick.

I don't know if there any insurance plans are available, but in hindsight that was an oversight on my part. Thankfully all went well for us, but there is an existing thread on this forum that details a truly costly experience that one couple experienced.

As you are un insured I would support that. My 4 day stay for influenza and bronchitis cost my insurance co 32,000 and had I paid myself would have been over 50,000. That is not even including an operation. Thailand is not a good place to get sick in if not insured.

I got insurance unfortunately it does not cover pregnancy as u have to select the optional cover atleast 280 days before it gets valid. And I did not plan this n it happened even though protection was present. Although I am happy and me and my husband is slowly adapting to the new arrival

Recommend against Samui )will be fine as long as nothing goes wrong, but if it does they'll need to refer to mainland anyhow).

Either Taksin Hospital if you want private care, or Surat Thani hospital, a large government hospital which serves the whole region. The latter will be the least expensive while the former will be the most comfortable. HOWEVER need to beware of being pushed to have an unnecessary c-section when in any private hosp[ital in Thailand, it is the norm here. Will not be a problem at the government hospital

You should try to find out if once born the baby will be covered under your insurance or not as the most expensive thing is if the baby needs intensive care for any reason. If so I am not sure if Thaksin Hosp has a NICU, if they do not and it is needed, they will refer to Surathani Hosp.
