Thai mint

Featured Replies

Can someone possibly advise the scientific term for Thai mint SARANAE (สะระแหน่)?

I have it as Mentha arvensis, however other sites sometimes indicate different terms.

It is often indicated in English as 'kitchen mint' (no idea) and 'marsh mint' (Mentha aquatica).

Thank you for your help.

Mentha cordifolia Opiz ex Fresen

Hope this help

Thank you for that Attapan.

That means that it is close to spearmint.

Wikipedia gives is as Melissa officinalis, but I suspect that's wrong. Melissa officinalis is lemon balm and Thai mint is nothing like lemon balm.

I suspect Attapan is correct.

Dear AyG,

Thank you for checking that further for me.

It seems that Mentha cordifolia Opiz ex Fresen (or at least some species of Mentha cordifolia) is correct. There are so many different names out there, that it is difficult to tell.
