Andaman Al
Quit your trumpet blowing, Prayut. It's time to name names, cite the charges and their extent, get the accused into court and get the whole thing in the media from start to finish. Or is this just too big to handle without implicating many, many other powerful and connected people? Well not quite. The problem is that even if Prayut names people who are corrupt then under Thai laws of Slander and Defamation (which are the strictest in the world!), those people he names will successfully slap class actions on him. Class actions for such things not only carry large fines but also come under criminal law and carry custodial sentences as well. The first thing Prayut needs to do is get rid of the ridiculous laws concerning defamation etc, and also impose a principle of one people-one law and remove the immunity of MP's from the law. THEN he can start naming names and the corrupt will tumble like a house of cards in the wind. It is all a question of does he really want to do this, or is it just for show. The solution is easy if they really mean it. yes fixing that ridiculous law would benefit Thailand a lot. Actually reverse the law, if someone can proof some corruption in public he should get a percentage of the money. He can't keep meaningless laws and complain that there is no progress. Make some laws that really bite and a anti corruption division, can be police or army or revenue department who get a commission on every case. There are very effective whistleblower systems in place in China and the USA. In the US the SEC set up something under the Dodds-Franks act whereby whistleblowers on corruption cases will be paid at least 10% up to 30% of the value of the amount of money involved in the specific case of corruption. In some cases this has seen 8 figure rewards. China set up a system leading to tens of thousands of calls on confidential lines but they still do not have an effective system in place to protect the informer, unlike the USA. Incidentally the US laws include non US citizens who whistleblow on US companies/transactions in foreign countries, so if any of you know of any cases then there is good cash to be made . djjamie
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha revealed during yesterday's Cabinet meeting his impatience over the lack of progress of the corruption probe of high-ranking civil servants and he called for a single, shared database on corruption for all ministries. Again we have this statement from the PM and only condescension towards it is warranted according to some. When a rumour regarding the PM is heard that has no evidential back up it is regarded as the truth and denouncement is the order of the day. When one cannot face the fact that the PM is moving the country forward the only defence some have is "Look at the photo" I love those defences because it is similar to the "lets make up a rumour about the PM" defence as it shows that some have no strong rebuttal against the current govt unless they use make believe. Again, well done to the PM on tackling corruption. A refreshing change from absolving 25 000 corruption cases...
