Bangkok returns to the World’s top ten best cities list‏

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok has been restored as one of the world’s top 10 most popular cities for visits by Travel and Leisure magazine after it was bumped out of the list last year due to political unrest.

The US-based magazine listed the world’s top ten most popular for visits this year as follows: 1. Kyoto, Japan; 2. Charleston, the US; 3. Siem Reap, Cambodia; 4. Florence, Italy; 5. Rome, Italy; 6. Bangkok, Thailand; 7. Krakow, Poland; 8. Barcelona, Spain; 9. Cape Town, South Africa; 10. Jerusalem, Israel.

For four years in a row from 2010-2013, Bangkok was listed one of the world’s top 10 most popular cities by Travel and Leisure magazine. It failed to make it to the list last year.

The magazine described Bangkok as follows: “Bustle may be an understatement here, where sweet and spicy street food perfumes the avenues and gilded Buddhist temples stand in dramatic juxtaposition to slick skyscrapers. It is frentic, colourful and a curious amalgamation of past and present: tuk-tuks and monks fill the streets at dawn, their reflections cast in the steel and glass high-rises.

At night, Sukhumvit Soi 38 offers a equally vibrant street-feast where pedestrians elbow up to tables to fat rice noodles, mango stick rice and pathongko with pandan leaf custard.

For all it's blemishes and problems the country has, the fact remains that overall, it's a nice place to stay. And definitely an excellent place to holiday. There will be a lot of naysayers who will slam the country but a whole lot of them are actually expats staying here. If it were that bad, they would have <deleted> off long ago.

Except Pattaya. That place is a toilet. Haha thumbsup.gif

Big difference between "Top Ten Best Cities" and "Top Ten Most Popular Cities for Visits".

In case the general public does not understand how T_____ and L______ Magazine writer(s) select its "Top 10 Cities"

first there is the application submitted by the city requesting the listing

second there is the supporting documentation ie attractions, reasons to visit, etc

third there is the "also to be considered" items sent to the selecting "person(s)" which can include air tickets to visit, even "spending money", free accomodations, and food vochures from elegant restaurants, etc etc etc

then the selection is made.......yeah....can you smell it?

hope you are now more well informed as to Bangkok's ranking

There are blemishes and problems everywhere on Earth. Thailand gets my vote across the board.

Pattaya is a toilet. Every country needs a toilet, it seems. That's where the turds go.
