Tourism Min eyes boosting revenue target to 2.5 trillion baht in 2017

BANGKOK, 17 July 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is aiming to bring in 2.5 trillion baht worth of tourism revenue in the next two years through the implementation of three main strategies.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul gave a lecture on the tourism reform strategy for the year 2015-2017 at a seminar organized jointly by the Association of Thai Travel Agents, the Thai Hotels Association, the Thai Travel Agents Association and the Association of Domestic Travel. The minister revealed that three tourism promotion strategies are being adopted in the short, medium and long terms.

The first strategy, she said, is the development of the Thai tourism market which involves many measures, including the promotion of Thailand as a quality leisure destination and the stimulation of traveling in all groups of people. The second strategy is the improvement of Thai tourism products and services, with an emphasis on the 12 must-visit cities and 8 border areas.

The third is the management of tourism, in which tourism personnel and businesses are to be upgraded while related laws are to be amended and seriously enforced. All the three strategies will be presented to the Cabinet next week for consideration.

Ms Kobkarn expressed confidence that this year’s tourist target of 28.8 million persons and revenue target of 2.2 trillion baht will be achieved. She also said a target has been set to generate 2.3 trillion baht in 2016 and to boost the figure to 2.5 trillion in 2017.

The SPIN factory is back at work. whistling.gif

Yes and we haven't heard from her for at least a day. biggrin.png

Is she afraid she'll be forgotten about ? Not likely as after the PM she's the best stand up the junta's got.

"The third is the management of tourism, in which tourism personnel and businesses are to be upgraded while related laws are to be amended and seriously enforced. All the three strategies will be presented to the Cabinet next week for consideration."

Does this mean only Thai people know how to deal with customers from overseas and we will enforce the exclusivity of the tourism industry to thai workers only?

Fire everyone in TAT and give me the job. I'll put out an announcement saying I'm raising tourism revenue to 3 trillion. No problem, they are just words and easy to say. It's doesn't matter if the target isn't reached, only that I say it.

sweet dreams thailand

time to wake up to reality

the world is struggeling and thailand is getting really expensive & seriously more dangerous

if it were not for hot places like pattaya & phuket, you know, the kind that attracks returning lonely single man customers, year after year, thailand would be a desolate place

"promotion of Thailand as a quality leisure destination" Psst.... how about making it a quality destination first? Thoughtful infrastructure improvements (not like what they are doing at Jomtien Beach, for instance). Jeez, just making sidewalks not steeplechases would be a start. They want to suck all the money in but are loath to put any out to right places. Similar to having a nice car, and when oil change/service time comes decide maybe a wax job better use of money, with inevitable results to performance over time.

What?

The second strategy is the improvement of Thai tourism products and services, with an emphasis on the 12 must-visit cities and 8 border areas.

What are these 12 must-visit cities?

8 border areas?

The third is the management of tourism, in which tourism personnel and businesses are to be upgraded while related laws are to be amended and seriously enforced.

Related laws amended, seriously enforced? You mean all non-Thais helping in the tourist industry will be sniffed out and penalized?

in which tourism personnel are to be upgraded

Fine thank you. And you?

Another dream scenario from the Spin doctor uber alles .... Throwing out numbers and targets like thats gonna make people feel like going to this place, risking their Familys life just taking a tourbus or going to the Zoo for crying out loud ... facepalm.gif

Amazing these people dont realize that unless Thailand can change as follows they can forget all about tourism in the future :

#1 Safety for tourists

#2 No harassment from RTP against tourists

#3 Clean up stinking dirty beaches

#4 Cheaper than now

#5 and the list goes on and on and on which is a big problem that they are not able to solve for sure - bye bye tourism ... blink.png
