Govt to donate drinking water to help drought victims

BANGKOK: -- The government will soon organise drinking water donations to hand out drinking water to flood victims, Deputy Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Sunday.

He said the donations would be held in Bangkok and the donated water would be distributed at Prachanukroh schools where His Majesty the King has set up drinking water distribution centres to help drought victims.

Cremation ceremony for the late Supreme Patriarch set on December 15-17

BANGKOK: -- Royally-sponsored cremation ceremony for the late Supreme Patriarch has been scheduled on December 15-17 at Wat Bovornnives Vihara and Wat Thepsirintaravas Ratchaovravihara.

This was decided by the committee charged with managing the funeral for the late Supreme Patriarch at a meeting on Saturday which was chaired by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on behalf of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The meeting also set out preparations for the three-day cremation ceremony which includes a khon mask dance performance on a Ramayana episode, restoration of a carriage to be used to carry the urn of the late Supreme Patriarch in a procession.

Two processions are planned. One procession is from Wat Bovornnives to Wat Thepsirin through Phra Sumane, Larn Luang and Krungkasem roads. The other procession is around the cremation site at Wat Thepsirin.

Religious ceremonies are to be held in all districts concurrently so that members of the public can pay respect to the late Supreme Patriarch.

At the instruction of His Majesty the King, images of the late Supreme Patriach will be casted in three sizes for members of the public to obtain for worshipping. The Fine Arts Department will be responsible for preparing the moulds for image casting.

Disciples of the late monk and members of the public can help in this image casting project by making contributions to the savings account No 061-2115356 of the Siam Commercial Bank from now on. Image casting ceremony is planned on October 24 at Wat Bovornnives.

Suriyasai expects Cabinet reshuffle soon

BANGKOK: -- Suriyasai Katasila, a former yellow-shirt leader and now an academic, expressed confidence on Sunday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha would soon reshuffle his Cabinet.

Suriyasai, deputy dean of Rangsit University's Social Innovation College, said several Cabinet members had poor performance so the prime minister would have no choice but replacing them.

Government units told to conserve water as an example for the public

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has issued an urgent order instructing all government units to conserve water and to avoid all activities which use a large amount of water so the country will go through this water crisis, said Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, deputy government spokesman on Sunday.
