Damaged Passport

Featured Replies

Clumsy me, I forgot my passport in my pocket and accidentally put it threw the washing machine. Luckily It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be as the photo page was undamaged along with the other pagers. The only thing is my recently new extension of stay stamp with the date on it has faded and missing along with my departure card. Since my visa information status is with on the immigration computer will I be ok if I go there with my passport and ask them to re stamp the date on my extension of stay or will they make me go threw the hoops making it a difficult experience.

Thanks,

Nope, not going to happen. The PP is 'defaced' and invalid sad.png

Time to apply for a new one (which may be difficult and expensive), then get the stamps transferred (which is easy and free).

I don't understand why people don't take more care of

their passports,in the wash in this case, with too many

reporting lost, when you are living, working or just a tourist

your passport is the most important document you have,

money can be replaced easy enough, but jumping through

the hoops to get a new passport, when overseas is anything

but easy.

You need to go to your embassy and get a new passport. They should give you a letter stating this is a replacement passport for a damaged passport. You then can take both new and old to immigration.

I had to have a passport replaced once because the airline ripped a page a little when scanning it and the embassy wouldn't add pages. It took less than a week to get the replacement. This was at the US Embassy a number of years back and think they had the replacement made in Hong Kong. Actually was an easy process and turned out being cheaper than adding pages and was able to get double pages with the new one. I imagine harder if you lost the passport but if you are showing them the damaged passport you just fill out a form and pay a fee for a replacement.
