Isn't that like admitting the real scan might not work? It's security theatre. Personally I think the more layers of security the better And all this extra security costs $$$ and pushes the prices up. Certainly this latest move by AOT is doing wonders for travelers safety ''is it not.'' Not fair. I don't see what they fix by scanning on entry to the check-in area. What was wrong with the old system?: Baggage to be checked was screened at the check-in area and carry-ons have always been checked on the way to the gates. The whole thing seems like it was either (a) for show, to show the international org that they're doing something or ( out of spite, so now they can point and blame the foreigners and their meddling. The problem here is not related to general pre-scanning of carry on, (it gets scanned after check-in anyway).The problem is a rogue police force who carry pistols on planes. (Similar to the rogue police force who refuse breathalyzers, and the rogue regime leader who goes off half-cocked every single time he utters a breath.) Police and army need to do their jobs. Not many airports in the world X-Ray luggage before check in. A lot of third world airports have scanning at the door and some more advanced eg Philippines, India. They also restrict entry to passengers only if they can... The question seems to be - if it is so vitally important for security reasons to put people through this at DMK, why is it not necessary at all at BKK? Little waist high metal barricades like cattle pens set up in main arrival foyer and all bags sealed with tape after xray. Then going thru it all again prior to boarding. As I read it there is still the same screening as before, with an additional x ray screening when entering the check in area. It is that screening, due to limited number of x ray machines that is causing the problem. So now it reverts to situation normal, as before. Bravo I don't know about Don Muang, but before someone went barking and changed the x ray station at Swampy, the x ray was in the best place, immediately before entering the gate area. If there is no segragation between transit and new check in passengers, a check in passenger can meet with a transit passenger and pass them anything they like.
