Indonesia restricts Thai airlines

BANGKOK: -- The transport minister revealed yesterday that Indonesia has restricted Thai flights to Indonesia but this does not affect current operation by Thai Airways International.

The restriction came in a notice Indonesia sent on July 16 to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) prohibiting all Thai airlines flying to Indonesia to add more transits, flights, or change routes, though chartered flights are still allowed as usual, but they would be considered under stricter inspections.

Transport Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong affirmed the Indonesia’s restriction but assured that the recent move by Indonesia would not disrupt any operations by Thai airlines, as there is only one airline that flies a direct route between Bangkok and Bali, seven flights per week, as well as 10 flights weekly between Jakarta and Bangkok.

He said despite the announcement by Indonesia, the current number of flights could still cater to passenger demands.

The minister further noted that the national flag carrier, Thai Airways or THAI also has no plans of expanding its routes to and from Indonesia or increase any flights on the routes it already operated.

They don't have that choice as the article clearly states earlier on that

Indonesia - one of the worst aviation safety countries in the world...

"..there is only one airline that flies a direct route between Bangkok and Bali, seven flights per week, as well as 10 flights weekly between Jakarta and Bangkok."

Nice little bit of poli-speak there. Thai Air Asia operates direct flights to Bali 10 times a week, Air Asia Indonesia operates 21 flights per week BKK-Jakarta. Buying your tickets on-line, would you notice the difference in carrier label?

When a Thai VIP comes home after a trip to Japan with an illegal (small) gun and watching how it has been handled by the authorities in Thailand any airport receiving planes from Thailand might wonder what the passengers has in their pockets.....

Things have come to a pretty pass when Indonesia has the temerity to restrict another country's airlines on the grounds of safety.

How embarrassing! Slammed by Indonesia who has lost more airliners than the Germans lost fighters and bombers in WWII.

Pot calls kettle black.

The first of many to come I fear.

This is just one more and there are probably more to come as Thailand never learns.

And yet, LION AIR which is owned by Indonesia can fly around Thailand at prices that make long haul bus rides to shame.

Oh the irony!

Rolls off just like water off of a ducks back.

The flag ship national airline is in serious trouble again, poor management has caused droughts in several regions of the country, roads continue to collapse due to erosion. The EU is threatening to ban fish supply's as this country appears to have serious problems in compliance. The US is still not convinced that Thailand is or has done enough to stem the problem of trafficking. The staple food rice market which suffered badly under Yinglucks rice pledging scheme seems doomed to have yet another bad year. The so called restructuring of the RTP has done little to establish public confidence in the fight against cronyism, nepotism and blatant corruption. Open elections have been postponed for the 4th time and are now scheduled to take place in 2017.

One could be excused from the belief that this country is close to the point of collapse, however, according to the TAT the flow of Chinese tourist may well offset all these negative influences.

Lets all stand and thank the Chinese. clap2.gifcheesy.gif

Would be considered under stricter inspections. Thats the bi word for Thai airlines inspections and safety you name it we do it and with only the best qualified staff in all Asia and can even get a general to tick the boxes if required could anyone possibly ask for more commitment than that.

Yep - maybe its time they publish the findings of the the Air Asia crash. As Elmer Fudd says " deh's sumting wewy wewy fishy going on awound here"

why should Thailand or there airlines worry about airplane safety??

until the plane crashes all is good. i forgot, Thailand is above the rest of the world and makes it's own rules. the first rule is there are no rules. the planes keep flying, so every thing must be good(HA-HA).

all Thailand needs is a rogue pilot to straighten every thing out.

the person in charge will be sent to an inactive post and still colect his salery and brown bags.

i really wonder how many brown bags have changed hands in the Thailand aircraft and Airport industry over time. gotta be mega mega bucks!!

I am not sure about now , but a few years back all Indonesia airlines were banned from Europe and Nth America and only allowed into OZ because they used new aircraft and each time they landed they were inspected for airworthiness , this is the kettle calling the pot black , having worked in Indon the only flights were with SIA and some of the horror stories that can be told, you'd never fly again. coffee1.gif

The world seems to be giving the Thai airline industry a message, are they listening?

That doesn't really sound correct. Possibly a little bit of exaggeration maybe?? whistling.gif

I suspect this has a lot more to do with reducing competition for the home team(s), than safety issues.

..that's what you get for paying people an annual bonus equivalent to 2 years of salary...

...whether they do any actual work or not....whether they are even actually capable of doing any work....

...20 years of .internal evaluations.... controls and audits....

...you know the system...'even when you fail...you pass'....

Indonesia is a disgusting toilet anyway. Who cares if you can't fly there anymore?

Sempati, Merpati and for a while there Garuda..., I'd only hazard a domestic flight of a day time hoping the skies were cloud free as it was well known that the Suharto years tended to recruit "pilots" from within the ranks who could only navigate by topography and roads!!

But gosh, the smell of Kretek cigarettes and Bali Koppie at 30k feet was worth it all!!

Oh yeah, Merpati, renown for cancelling flights if there weren't enough bums on seats.Their theme song was "It's Merpati and we'll fly if we want to, fly if we want to........" Sorry, Lesley.

You ok now......got that tripe off your chest?

Guys, isn't it time for you to set down your beer glass and stop complaining about Thai airways. It's not the worse airline, the service is good the only negative is that it's pricy on some routes compare to the government substituted Gulf airlines. Don't understand all this negativity since a lot of you guys live in the country.

It was maybe WW1, typo--hahaha 555

Pesky foreigners just cannot seem to understand that Thai aviation is different, just like Thai electricity.
