EC Chairman says it’s everyone's duty to ensure transparent elections

BANGKOK, 23 July 2015 (NNT)-Election Commission (EC) Chairman Suphachai Somcharoen has indicated it is every body’s duty to promote transparent elections.

The EC Chairman said in a recent seminar on fair elections that the objective of the election is not to prevent corruption but to echo the voice of the people.

It is also a key mechanism, under the democratic principles, to select good individuals to represent people to work in the Parliament. The draft charter has been revised several times to make sure it will pave the way for the transparent elections.

He added that whatever the election model Thailand will adopt, it is important to take into consideration the pros and cons of each model. It should serve no one’s but public interest. Measures should also be in place to assure no vote buying can be committed.

This country is run by a small group of people who do whatever the <deleted> they want and then blame the general population for turning the place to to sh*t - the rhetoric in this article is just another example of this. It's everyone's duty until someone says it's not.

Why? are there really going to be elections ? I suppose it doesn't really matter because who ever is elected they will have the army looking over their shoulders all the time.

Redundant dept, dont even need them until 2017, lay them all off and save the payroll for 2 years, useless dept couldnt deal with elections then and just as useful right now.

What is a "transparent election"?

Elections are normally referred to as "free" and "fair". This means everyone can vote without hindrance or intimidation, and there in minimal corruption of the voting and vote counts.

" the objective of the election is not to prevent corruption but to echo the voice of the people..."

What the heck does that mean?

It is also a key mechanism, under the democratic principles, to select good individuals to represent people to work in the Parliament.

No. The primary principal is to allow the people to elect whoever they want.

Measures should also be in place to assure no vote buying can be committed.

Impossible. The "measures" should be strong prosecution of those found to be buying votes.

I'm just surprised anyone. anywhere takes this guy seriously at all, even that he's still got a job after being a part of the great treason conspiracy.. But then I suppose who you know will always trump what you know in TL. Probably a good reason for that given the Thai education system.

Amazing really.
