I live very close to CMU and the two bars next to my condo closed about a week before the hoopla, and remain closed. A thai friend of one of the owners told me the closings might be permanent, and that was before the reprieve. So from my viewpoint, it looks like the wheels of injustice have been, and are still moving on this topic. CMU doesn't sell at its campus 7-11 or Co-op, and I don't recall ever seeing anyone consume on campus. None of the street places (about 40 of them) that set-up on Suthep sell, either. One restaurant, that was next to the closed bars, relocated about 1 km away from the school about three months ago. They sold and consumed beer. One of the bars stayed open until 4am as recently as the last big soccer games. So they were well connected. Anecdotal evidence, I know, but this area would be considered ground zero for a university related alcohol ban. Meanwhile, the take-away only places, like 7-11, haven't missed a beat.
